After a courageous, two-year battle with pancreatic cancer, Peter Douglas Campbell, 63, passed away March 29 at the Huntsman Cancer Hospital in Salt Lake City.
Pete was born September 3, 1953 to Lester and Wilma Campbell in Cardston, Alberta, and was raised on the family farm. He attended Ricks College (not BYU-Idaho) and Utah State University, where he lettered in track and cross country. At Utah State, he met Kimilee Christensen and, after a brief, 10-year, long distance courtship, they married in September of 1984.
There was not a more true blue Aggie. Pete held Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from USU. He was a member of the Big Blue Club and had season tickets for many sports, even in the lean years. He was employed at USU as an accountant and academic advisor for over 30 years and loved working with the students. He held a special affinity for student athletes, and had plans to beat his cancer and attend NFL games to watch some of his advisees compete.
Pete loved golfing, fishing, the Bear Lake cabin, raisin-filled cookies, dancing, holding babies, golfing, visiting the Canadian relatives, watching sports (even golf!), fantasy and science fiction movies, golfing, sitting around a fire or table with friends and family, the Aggies, his girls – Kimilee and Meg, and golfing.
He leaves behind many people he loved and who love him deeply: his wife, Kimilee of Logan; his daughter, Megan K. Campbell Clawson (Ryan) of Harrisville; brothers, Alex (Deb) and Kim (Verla); sisters, Brenda (Delton) Jenson, Janis Beazer, and Susan (Bill) Ellis, all of various locations in Alberta; in-laws; Gayle and Marlene Christensen of Tremonton, Corey and Lori Christensen of Wellsville, Ryan and LeeAnne Christensen of West Haven, Mistee and Michael Udy of Riverside, and many nieces, nephews and friends who consider him a grandpa –uncle. His parents, Wilma and Lester Campbell, and special brother-in-law, Mark, preceded him in death.
Services will be held at the Allen-Hall Mortuary in Logan, Utah on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at 11 a.m., with a viewing from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday evening, April 5, and from 9-10:30 a.m. prior to the funeral. Burial will be in the Logan City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Huntsman Cancer Hospital in Peter’s name.
