Surrounded by loving family in her final days, Priscilla Wade Haslam passed away on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at the age of 88 at Sunridge Assisted Living Center in Layton, Utah.
Born on Dec. 5, 1935, in Monroe, Utah, Priscilla is the daughter of Ellis and Bernice (Washburn) Wade. She was blessed with wonderful parents and loved being the older sister to Millicent and Richard. She was born in the family home that still stands today on the corner of 300 South and 200 West in Monroe. Except for living in San Luis Obispo, Calif., and Mesa, Ariz., during World War II while her father served in the US Army, she spent her early years growing up in that same family home, a place she loved dearly. Priscilla looked forward to every opportunity to return to her roots in Sevier County.
Priscilla graduated South Sevier High School in 1954 and moved north to Logan to attend Utah State University. She comes from a proud Aggie family, as her father, brother, and sister all graduated from Utah State, with both Ellis and Richard excelling athletically. Priscilla met the “very handsome and polite” Larry Haslam during Homecoming Week at USU in October 1956. Their initial meeting happened when Larry knocked on her dormitory door to inform her, she had been selected as a member of the Homecoming royalty. They were married in the Manti Temple on June 19, 1957, and spent 65 years together working hard, traveling extensively, and serving many, before Larry passed away on Sept. 4, 2022. The vast majority of those years were spent living in Logan, Utah, where she cherished her many friends and neighbors.
Priscilla always knew she wanted to be a teacher and graduated Utah State in 1957 with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and child development. She spent three years teaching in the Cache County School District before becoming a fulltime mother to Lisa, Wade, Kent and Holly. After the children were grown, she returned to the classroom to teach special education in the Logan School District. She was proud to be a grandma and adored her 18 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren, with more on the way.
Throughout her life she loved serving in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a deep love for and testimony of Jesus Christ and His restored Gospel. In 1996, Larry and Priscilla spent time presiding over the Japan Tokyo North mission and they always enjoyed working together for many years in the Logan Temple. Her quiet devotion, love of family, and witty sense of humor will be missed.
She is survived by her children Lisa Rohwer, Wade (Lori Mortenson) Haslam, Kent (Holly Huber) Haslam, and Holly (Dan) Johns, brother Richard Wade, along with that energetic and always fun group of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Priscilla is preceded in death by her husband, parents, her sister Millicent Wade and brother-in-law John Paul, Larry’s parents Joseph and Zetta Haslam, and son-in-law Kevin Rohwer.
