Quentin Barker

Quentin Cannon Barker, 91, passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at Cache Valley Assisted Living Center in Providence, Utah. He was born October 27, 1919 in Newton, Utah to Jesse Benson Barker and Archa Cannon. He grew up on the farm working with his father, learning many valuable lessons and a strong work ethic. He attended North Cache High School in Richmond, Utah and went on to Utah State University in Logan. While at Utah State University, he met the love of his life, Kathleen Stewart, who became his wife on February 14, 1945 at Camp Roberts, California while Quentin was serving in the US Army. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan, Utah Temple on April 17, 1945. Quentin’s tour of duty during World War II took him
throughout the Pacific Theater. Beginning in the Philippine Islands and ending in Japan where he was present for the signing of the armistice.
He was employed by the US Postal Service in Logan, Utah for 30 years until his retirement in 1977. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, having served in many capacities, including being a temple worker for 17 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Stewart (August 12, 1998) and his brothers Theron and Keith Barker. He is survived by his sisters Beatrice Nyman and Zelpha Bird, and two children. Pamela Bird of St. George, Utah, and David Q (Denise) Barker, Brigham City, Utah. Seven grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren.Funeral services will be on Tuesday, June 7th at 12 noon at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street in Logan. A viewing will be held Monday evening, from 6:00 to 7:30 PM and from 10:30-11:30 AM prior to services on Tuesday. Interment will be in the Logan City Cemetery.
