Surrounded by his loved ones, Ralph Gaylard Sorenson passed away peacefully on March 23, 2025, just a few days before his 85th birthday.
Born on March 27, 1940, in Logan, Utah, Ralph grew up in Smithfield, where he attended Smithfield Summit School, Smithfield Junior High, and North Cache High School, graduating in 1958. Not long after, he answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the U.S. Navy until his honorable discharge in 1962. His faith was always a guiding force, and in 1963, he dedicated two years to missionary service in the North East British Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
In 1966, Ralph married the love of his life, Beth Nielson, in the Logan Temple, and together they built a beautiful life filled with love, family, and hard work. They raised six wonderful children—Steven, Keith (Shaunna), Michael (Laura), Sandra Daley (Marcus), Jason, and Ryan—who were the center of his world.
Ralph was a man of many talents, known for his skilled craftsmanship in tile work and carpentry. Whether he was working on a home project, fixing something in his backyard shop, or lending a hand to someone in need, he always put his heart into everything he did. He had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and spent countless hours camping and exploring nature with his family.
His children describe him as respectful, affectionate, selfless, strong, talented, kind, patient, funny, thoughtful, and playful—a testament to the life he lived and the love he shared.
Ralph is survived by his children, grandchildren, his sister Marilyn Douglas (Roger), and sisters-in-law Linda Sorenson (Allen) and Jeanette Sorenson (Brent). He is now reunited with his beloved wife, Beth, and his brothers, Allen and Brent.
A funeral service will be held on March 31, 2025, at the Smithfield 11th Ward Building 79 E 200 S, Smithfield, Utah. A viewing will take place from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM. A graveside dedication at Smithfield Cemetery will follow.
Though Ralph is no longer with us, his legacy of love, faith, and hard work will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. His steady hands and kind spirit made the world a better place, and he will be deeply missed.
