ReNae Walters Gittins
1938-2013
If any of you noticed a new glorious star appear in the sky on August 16th, 2013, it was that of ReNae Walters Gittins. She left this world to go to the one beyond where she could shine even brighter than she did on earth. She passed through the veil from natural causes.
ReNae Walters Gittins was born in the Budge Hospital in Logan, UT. on October 30th, 1938 to Dale Peterson and Alda Salvesen Peterson. Together they had two children, Rolane and ReNae. They were later divorced and added another son (Merrill) to their happy clan when Alda married Daniel M Walters. Alda and Daniel went on to have a son, Lee, together. This completed their family.
ReNae was raised in Wellsville, UT, attended Cache County Schools and graduated from South Cache High School in 1956. From there, she attended and graduated from Dental Nursing school in 1958. She worked for Dr. Vere Johnson for 25 years. He became a lifelong friend and mentor. She absolutely shined in this position and never forgot how much she learned from it, not just professionally but from other aspects as well. He, his wife, and their children were always considered part of her family.
Within this frame of time, she married Sidney Glen Gittins, wearing such a beautiful wedding gown that it was later worn by 3 additional family members! AND – from this union, a beautiful little daughter (Cheryl ReNae Gittins) was born. Sid and ReNae moved to River Heights in 1963 and ReNae began a new career at Pepperidge Farms in 1986 where she made many new friends and acquaintances and learned new skills.
Though always a beautiful girl, ReNae was most definitely a tomboy at heart for most of her life. She was the first to climb a tree, kick the ball and show the guys how to race around the tracks, even though she broke her arm jumping off the coal shed. She enjoyed snow and water skiing, roller blading, fishing, camping, boating, and bike riding as long as her health permitted. She was famous for canning beautiful jars of – well everything – from chili sauce, jam, and pickles to every type of fruit or vegetable that was grown in their unbelievable, luscious annual garden.
They spent their time camping every weekend, always with their daughter and of course a dog of some type who was more like a second child to them and had to be hanging out of the window of their trucks to ensure that their camping trips were successful.
Their daughter Cheryl married Brad Hansen and they gave birth to a highly intelligent and handsome son (Little Sid) and then to a hazel, sparkly eyed, mischievous and beautiful girl (Stephanie). Sid married Natalie Hansen and Stephanie later married Michael Johnson.
To know ReNae was to love ReNae. She especially loved the primary children that she taught for forty years! And she loved her Heavenly Father above all. She had too many friends to mention at this time. However, we would like to thank those who freely gave her their love and support, especially as of late. Special thanks to Brady and Mandy Kent (and their 3 beautiful children) and Ken and Geri Sorensen who took her on as family and were always there for her as needed. And, along with her MANY friends of old, we shall never forget her new friends at Williamsburg who helped her make the transition from River Heights to Logan so successful. Special thanks to Dr. Brian Carlson for the loving care and compassion he provided.
She was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather, Daniel M. Walters, to whom she was sealed, sister, Rolane, and brother, Lee.
A viewing will be held this Friday, August 23, from 6-8 PM at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center St. in Logan. The funeral will be conducted under the direction of Bishop David Rasmussen at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 24th, at the Stake Center building located at 800 S. 600 E. River Heights, Utah, with a viewing at the church from 12-12:45pm prior to services. Relief Society President, Beth Price has played an instrumental part in her life and should receive an extra mention of love as well.
Burial will be held in the Wellsville Cemetery immediately following the services.
