Randall Lee Johnson, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at the age of 75, surrounded by his wife, children, and several of his grandchildren.
Randy was born in Logan Utah, on March 3, 1949, to Max J. and Louize Johnson. He was raised in Logan and graduated from Logan High School in 1967. He attended Utah State University for a short time and was involved in the Sigma Chi Fraternity.
Randy was an accomplished skier and outdoorsman, spending many days at Beaver Mountain, exploring Logan Canyon, or basking in the Bear Lake sun. He was an adventurous guy who loved getting into a little mischief now and then which often led him to a hospital bed with broken limbs and other ailments. His active lifestyle would eventually take a large toll on the decline of his body which he suffered through some difficult pain. Even with all the pain, we know he wouldn’t trade the adventures and the memories for anything.
He married his Jr. high school sweetheart, Patricia Ann Worley, on March 14, 1971, in Logan, Utah. During their companionship of over 60 years, Randy and Patti welcomed three children into their family: Jayme Shepherd of Providence, Utah; Max (Kelsey) Johnson of Layton, Utah; and Lindsay (Vincent) Spinning of North Salt Lake, Utah. Randy and Patti began their marriage in Plain City Utah, but soon moved to Providence Utah where they have remained ever since.
Randy was a talented musician originally playing the alto sax in high school and eventually taught himself to play the drums. Although he was totally rock n’ roll, he became a member of the country western band, “The Lee Winterton Band”, later named “Justin Time” during the 1980s. The band was locally and state-accomplished winning the Wrangler Country Showdown for Cache Valley and then for the state of Utah. The band traveled to Nashville in November 1984 to compete at the national finals at The Grand Ole Opry House. Band leader and dear friend, Lee Winterton wrote a song about Randy appropriately titled “Randy’s Song” which became one of their greatest hits.
Randy was a dedicated and involved husband, father, and grandfather. He spent much of his later years following his grandchildren to their various sporting and dance events. He lit up around his grandchildren and always had everyone laughing and giggling at his antics. His family reveled in capturing photos and videos of his dance moves, hilarious sounds, and funny faces. They especially loved catching him off-guard to “spook” him. Payback for his own “spooking” throughout the years.
Randy was preceded in death by his parents, father and mother-in-law, sister-in-law, and a nephew. He is survived by his wife Patti, his 3 children, Jayme, Max, and Lindsay, his 7 grandchildren Brayden (Haley), Ethan, Avah, Jack, Sophie, Derek, and Jackson, and his 4 siblings, Billy Max (Kris), Jamie (Dixie), Elyse & Pam. He was a truly blessed man and was so very proud of his family.
The family and close friends will hold a life celebration for Randy this summer in one of his favorite places at the family tree on Mount Logan. Interment will be in the Logan City Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.allenmortuaries.net.
The family would like to express their sincere love and appreciation for all those within the community who loved and cared for Randy.
