High Creek, Utah: Ray Heber Walker, our precious husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, brother and friend, passed away on Sunday, October 10, 2010, at the age of 90, at the Family Place Senior Center in Lewiston, Utah.
He was the first son born to Heber Lorin and Ethel Wheatley Walker, the third of eight children, on August 9, 1920 in Honeyville, Utah.
Growing up in the Depression years, Ray learned the value of hard work and responsibility. He and his brothers and sisters worked hard helping their parents with the family farm.
He married his sweetheart, June Wilson, on October 5, 1939 in Honeyville, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple. He loved his Savior, Jesus Christ and his Father in Heaven.
Ray and June’s first home was in Honeyville, Utah where he hauled milk for the Honeyville Dairy Farmers. Here, their first three children were born.
Ray was called to serve in World Ward II in 1945.
After the war, they bought a house and farm land in High Creek, Utah. He loved the beautiful valley and mountains. Here, their other three children were born. They worked hard fixing up an old run-down house into a beautiful home with a lovely yard and garden, and started a successful dairy farm.
Ray provided for his family by working on his farm and at the Gilt Edge Mill. After retiring from the Gilt Edge, he kept on working hard as a farmer for many years with his son, Kent.
He loved to be busy every working hour. No matter what got broke, Daddy could fix it. He taught us how to work and to be thankful for what we had. Every fall, dad and his sons looked forward to deer and pheasant hunting together.
He had a great love for music and a gift of playing the accordion and the harmonica by ear. At Christmas, we loved singing along while he played his squeeze box. He listened to Lawrence Welk right up until his last days.
The world is a better place for having known this wonderful man who was always full of good cheer, love, laughter and whistling a happy tune. Daddy was a man of few words, but of great heart. His gentle hand squeeze said volumes. His integrity, honesty, reliability, helpfulness and friendliness were examples to all who knew him. His greatest joy and source of pride is the family he created with his sweet wife.
Ray is survived by his loving wife June, of 71 years, three sons and two daughters, Richard Walker of Denver, Colorado; Jack (Jo) Walker of Arvada, Colorado; Darlene (Bob) Hill of Smithfield; Kent (Nancy) Walker of High Creek; Judy (Val) Egbert of Logan; 19 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, two sisters: Nola Walker of Salt Lake City and Fern Holmes of Logan; three brothers: Don (LeAnna) Walker of West Point; Thomas (Marilyn) Walker of Honeyville; and LeWayne (Grace) Walker of Honeyville.
Ray was preceded in death by his infant son, Baby Ray Walker, his parents, brother, William Walker and his sister, Ellen Burnett Wheatley,
