LOGAN, UTAH: Raymond Earl Hansen died at home on January 13, 2009, at the age of 77 after a long struggle with pancreatic cancer.
He was married to Gladys Dattage for 55 years.
He was born in Logan, Utah on April 2, 1931, the third of five children to Earl and Alta Hansen. He graduated from Logan High School in 1949, and attended Utah State University for two years before serving in the New England Mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. On January 22, 1954, he married Gladys Dattage of Providence, Utah, in the Logan Temple. He graduated from the School of Dentistry at the University of Washington in 1959. He served two years for the Army Dental Corp at Fort Ord, California, then remained in California for 38 years to raise his family and practice dentistry. He served as President of the Monterey Bay Dental Society, and Trustee to the California Dental Society. Upon retirement in 1999 Raymond and Gladys moved back to Logan.
He was active with Boy Scouts of America, serving 28 years on the Monterey Bay Area Council Executive Committee, 14 years as Council Commissioner. He earned the Silver Beaver Award for his years of service. After retirement he served as the District Commissioner of the Old Ephraim District in Cache Valley, Utah.
He served in numerous church positions, including two terms as Bishop, and in the Stake Presidency of the Monterey California Stake. After his retirement, he served as an officiator in the Logan LDS Temple.
He also loved photography, hunting, and camping.
Raymond is survived by his wife and their seven children: Kim (Joy) Hansen of West Valley City, Utah; Todd (Judi) Hansen of Logan, Utah; Rayann Hansen of Logan, Utah; Jeffrey (Lynelle) Hansen of Price, Utah; Brett (Janna) Hansen of West Valley City, Utah; Kent Hansen of Peoria, Arizona; and Brenda Hansen of Vacaville, California. He is also survived by his brother Paul Hansen, his sister Ruth Anderson, his brother-in-law Bob Rallison, and his sisters-in-law Sharon Christiansen Hansen and Linda Robbins Hansen. Raymond was the grandfather of sixteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Alta Hansen, his brother Joseph Melvin Hansen, and his sister Lorraine Hansen Rallison.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, January 17, 2009 at the Dry Canyon LDS chapel, 1350 Eastridge Drive, Logan, Utah. Friends and family may call at Allen-Hall Mortuary on Friday evening, January 16, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. and prior to services on Saturday from 10:30 to 11:30 AM at the church.
