Brave. Resilient. Inspirational. An example of strength to everyone around her, Rebecca “Reeb” Hansen John, peacefully passed away May 8, 2014. She was born July 21, 1953 to her parents Joye and Bernell Hansen.
The night before her body surrendered to a second bout with Leukemia and a stroke, Reeb vowed to “continue fighting.” All of her family, friends and medical personnel, revered her for her passion and determination to endure the unconquerable. This mother, daughter, aunt and friend didn’t know how to back down from a challenge.
Such is the demeanor of a woman who grew up helping at her father’s gas station while graduating from Logan High School in 1971. Such is the dedication of a woman who worked for 37 years at Moore Business Forms/RR Donnelley. The same woman had one of the most immaculate gardens in Cache Valley, and she didn’t know what it was like to hit her tee shot from out of the rough. Reeb was all fairways and greens.
Becky was married to Basil Haberstick (divorced) with whom her son and best friend, Ryan Haberstick, was born. She was also married to Jeff John (divorced). Reeb and Ryan affectionately called each other “Nerd,” and effectively showed that there are few bonds stronger than the bond between mother and son.
Reeb developed a passion for quilting later in her life. She loved the laughs, tears, experiences and time spent with her quilting friends. She strengthened her fabric of lasting friendships while making exact stitches, and designs that the most established artists would be jealous of. During her last days, she was more concerned with celebrating her friend Shari’s birthday, than she was with her own personal limitations.
She consistently said that any aid given to her by her family or friends was always “more better” than she previously felt. Seeing her courage made us “more better.” Reeb is better because there aren’t any doctor appointments or Chemotherapy treatments. There are no more visits to the emergency room or shallow breaths of air. We are “more better” for having Reeb in our lives, and she is “more better” than she has felt for a while.
Becky is survived by her mother, Joye Hansen of Logan, her son, Ryan Haberstick of Logan; Siblings: Debbie (Gary) Andersen, Greg (Debby) Hansen, Ron (Carol) Hansen and Mike (Jana) Hansen. Becky was preceded in death by her father, Bernell “Nellie” Hansen, who affectionately called her “Frizzy.”
Graveside services will be held Monday, May 12,2014 at 12:00 Noon in the Logan Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome to attend. Condolences and thoughts may be expressed to the family online at
