Reed Alderman

April 6, 1929 — December 10, 2022

Eldon Reed Alderman passed peacefully from this life, surrounded by family, December 10, 2022. Reed was born April 6, 1929, in Driggs, Idaho to George Monroe Alderman and Norma McDaniel Alderman.

Reed’s early years were spent in Tetonia, Idaho. He enjoyed fishing, playing baseball, and getting into mischief with his friends. He loved the Teton valley and visited there often during his life. When he was 14 his family moved to Boise, Idaho where he graduated from Franklin High School in 1947.

He married Carol Yeadon in 1950, later divorced. From that marriage his oldest child Kathy was born. He worked for the Salt Lake Hardware Company in Boise and later transferred to their Salt Lake City headquarters, with the intention of moving to California, but he never made it because he met the love of his life, Janet Harmon. They were married August 2, 1958, in Ely, Nevada. They settled in the Salt Lake Valley and added four more children, Diana, Alan, Trina, and Nanette.

In 1971 they moved to Logan where they raised their family and lived until 2004, when they returned to the Salt Lake Valley to be closer to family.

Reed was a hard worker and never left any job undone. He was known to have the best lawn in the neighborhood – always green and immaculately mowed, in two directions, and edged. He enjoyed collecting coins and classic movies, especially westerns. His coin collection was extensive, and he owned 166 of the 169 full length movies that John Wayne made. He and Janet enjoyed road trips. They were able to visit 48 of the 50 states. But his favorite road trips were to see family and to visit Teton Valley and Jackson Hole.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandpa, and great grandpa. He loved visits from his grandkids and would hold them on his lap and rock them in his chair.

Reed was preceded in death by his parents, George and Norma Alderman, four sisters, Cleah Hopkins, Ida Ford, Inez, and Colleen, and a grandson, Jeffery Meincke. He is survived by his wife, Janet, children, Kathy (Dave) Meincke, Diana (Brian) Proffit, Alan (Andrea) Alderman, Trina (Bill) Shelton, and Nanette Alderman, and by many grand- and great-grandchildren that love him and will miss him dearly.
