Reed Jensen

October 27, 1926 — December 31, 2010

HYRUM, UTAH: Reed John Jensen, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend returned home to his Heavenly Father and loved ones on, Dec. 31, 2010. He passed away at Logan Regional Hospital incident to age.
He was born Oct. 27, 1926, in Hyrum, Utah, to his parents Victor and Alice James Jensen. He is brother to Ronald (Delores Shiess), Kathleen (Douglas Jones), Leon (Verda Nelson), Dorothy (Alvin Ferre), who are deceased, and Gaylen (Arlene Leishman), who is living. He has always cherished his family and treasured each memory with them. He had endearing memories of growing up on the family farm in Hyrum and spoke fondly of them.
On Aug. 23, 1950, he married the love of his life, Jean Leishman. Reed and Jean made their home in Hyrum. They were blessed with six children, Janet (Mark Christensen), Regena (Ralph Miller), Ann Marie, Alice (Todd Gilbert), Steven (Katrisha Newbold), and Jennifer (Troy Jenkins). He lived his life in love and dedication for his children and wife. Nothing in his life took precedence over his family; they were always his most important priority.
Reed was a strong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Reed held a fervent testimony of the gospel and love for his Father in Heaven. After serving a full time mission to the Texas/Louisiana mission, he returned home to serve as the Secretary to the Quorum of the Seventy in his Stake. Other positions in the church included Gospel Doctrine Teacher, Stake Sunday School President, Member of the Stake High Council, and Bishop of the Hyrum 7th Ward. He grew to love the members of his ward and stake during those many years of service.
Reed had a strong conviction of education. He received his BS Degree in Agriculture from USU. However, his life plan was not to follow this course. Reed was offered a job in education. He loved this profession so much that he completed requirements to receive his Elementary Administrative/ Supervisory Endorsement. During that time he taught school in Riverdale, Idaho, and then taught at the Intermountain Indian School in Brigham City, Utah. Reed was then hired at Wellsville Elementary first as a teacher then as a principal. Reed was then transferred to be principal at Lincoln Elementary in Hyrum. Lastly, he was the principal at Millville Elementary until he retired. Reed always said there was no better profession than education. He had a high regard for all whom he taught and worked with.
Farming was another love Reed held dear. All the years of working and raising a family, he maintained 60 acres of ground, owned cattle, loved to ride horses, and had several pets for the children to love. Farming was one of Reed's passions. He taught his children many life skills while working outside. His hard work ethics dominated each success he had in life.
Reed had a beautiful singing voice and loved to sing at any opportunity. He performed with the Imperial Glee Club and sang in a men's quartet. He loved these experiences. Other musical talents he enjoyed were yodeling, whistling, and playing his harmonica. Reed's love for music was a value he wove through his life and his family.
To his children, Reed was the ultimate example. His life was his testimony.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Logan Regional Hospital for their kindness and service.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 12:00 pm in the Hyrum North Stake Center, 245 North 750 East. There will be a viewing Wednesday evening from 6-8 pm at the Allen-Hall Mortuary in Logan (34 East Center) and at the church on Thursday from 10:30 - 11:30 am.
