Reed Franklin Shelley Jr

December 16, 1946 — June 16, 2014

Hyde Park- Reed Franklin Shelley Jr. died some time during the night of
June 15th 2014.
Reed was born December 16, 1946 in Altadena California to Reed Shelley
and his mother Phyllis Hohenshelt. He graduated from Alhambra High School in
1965 and also attended Arroyo High school, both in Southern California. Upon his
graduation and with the war in Vietnam heating up Reed Volunteered for service
in the Air Force. He rose to the rank of Tech Sergeant and was in charge of
loading and unloading weapons from aircraft. Reed often spoke fondly of his
service and shared many stories with the family and friends.
After his service was over he came home. He met Noelle Jolley and the two
were married less than four months later in the Los Angeles LDS Temple. The two
spent 38 years on Earth together and are now back together in Eternity.
He worked for nearly 40 years for Los Angeles County Department of Public
Works. He retired as a senior welder fitter, and supervised his department. Reed
was a very hard worker, he put in long tough hours and never complained. He
always got the job done right the first time.
After his retirement Reed and Noelle moved to Hyde Park to be closer to
their dear friends Boyd and Lynda Condie of North Logan. Reed was hesitant at
first to move to an area that actually had weather. Soon he got used to the snow
and grew closer to Cache Valley. Mom passed away in 2007 leaving Dad crushed.
He found projects to do and loved to work on restoring his MG. In the past
few years Reed had discovered working out. He would spend most mornings at
Logan Regional Hospital Cardiac Rehab walking on the treadmill and talking to his
good friends. After that he was off to Gold's Gym in Logan. He made very good
friends at both locations. Before his death he was in a competition to walk 100
miles in one month. At the time of his death he had already logged over 70 miles
in just over 2 weeks.
That is just how Dad was, a hard worker. Once he committed to something
he did it. He was a man of his word, and always had a kind word to share.
Reed is survived by his son David, daughter-in-law Sophie, grandkids Paul,
Annie and Hunter. His brother Dennis, sisters, Pam, Debbie and Sherrie. And his
mother Phyllis Hohenshelt. As well as many nieces, nephews and other family he
had recently reconnected with.
Funeral Services will be held Monday June 23rd at the Hyde Park 10th Ward
42 West 200 South. There will be a viewing at 9am and formal services at 10:00 a.m.. On Sunday evening June 22nd there also will be a viewing at Allen Mortuary of North Logan, 420 East 1800 North from 6-8 p.m. Burial will be in the Provo City Cemetery.
