Reed McEntire passed away on July 14, 2007 at the age of 78 in Logan Utah. Reed was born April 22, 1929 to Wells & Ida McEntire in Preston Idaho.
Reed was raised on a dairy farm in Preston Idaho. After graduating from Preston High School, Reed served an LDS Mission in the Southern States. He met his sweetheart Jannett Humphreys at USU and subsequently marred in the Logan Utah Temple where they were sealed for time and all eternity. They were blessed with five children. Reed worked at the Amalgamated Sugar Factor, the Preston Post Office, and eventually moved to the farm where he spent 35 year farming 225 acres of irrigated land, and milking a large heard Holstein milking cows. He actively severed in his church in various assignments including in a bishopric, as a stake missionary and as a scout master. He was an active member of Kiwanis and loved flipping hamburgers at the Kiwanis stand for the Preston rodeo. He received the Idaho State “Grassman of the Year” award. He was well respected for high yields of sugar beats, sweet corn and cabbage while at the same time milking cows. He served on the Mink Cheek Canal Company. He negotiated contracts with Del Monte for crops. After Farming, he managed the Your Valet dry cleaner in Logan Utah. Reed and Jan served an LDS San Bernardino California mission together. He loved bowling and taking trips to visit or support family.
Reed is survived by his wife, Jannett Humphreys McEntire of Logan Utah, two sons Stanley (Mona) Reed McEntire of Pocatello Idaho and Jonathan (Kathryn) Rich McEntire of Littleton Colorado, Reed’s Brothers Wells McEntire Oceanside CA, Warren (Faun) McEntire of Rupert ID, and sisters June Fischer of Preston Idaho, Fern McEntire of Logan Utah, Virginia (Seth) Christensen of Twin Falls ID, and Laurel (Gail) Madsen of Fort Collins CO. Reed was preceded in death by two sons and a daughter, Thomas “Tommy” McEntire, Robert “Bobby” McEntire, and Barbra Ann McEntire.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am Monday July 16th 2007 at Allen-Hall Mortuary 34 East Center Logan Utah with Bishop Olson conducting. A viewing will be held from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm Sunday July 15th and again 10:00 am to 10:45 am Monday July 16th at the Allen Hall Mortuary. Interment in the Logan Cemetary.
