Reed William Willie

November 3, 1933 — January 8, 2009

HYRUM, UTAH: Reed William Willie, 76, of Hyrum, Utah, our beloved husband, father and grandfather, left this earth unexpectedly on Thursday, January 8, 2009 in Hyrum.
He was born November 14, 1933, in Logan, Utah, the son of James and Mary Diana Willie. He was the youngest of 4 siblings. Reed graduated Logan High School and from Utah State University in 1961 earning a mechanical engineering degree. On November 14, 1952, he married Sheron LuDean Bradley in the Logan LDS Temple. They were inseparable and devoted to each other. Reed was a High Priest in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Sixth Ward and served in many callings.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War in the 1950’s. After a short stint at Fort Ord, California he moved on to Camp Irwin, California. After an honorable discharge, the young family moved on to Seattle, Washington where he worked for Boeing for a few years. They finally returned to Utah, making Hyrum their final home. Reed was employed by Thiokol as a mechanical engineer for the next 35 years, retiring in 1997.
Reed loved his family above all else, he was our big teddy bear. His wife Sheron was the love of his life; his constant companion. They were virtually inseparable. Even to the last day they were caught holding hands. He was a quiet, gentle and kind man, always willing to help anyone in need. Although he didn’t say a whole lot, he thoroughly enjoyed the many gatherings with family and dear friends. He loved to tease his granddaughters and loved all the hugs he could steal from them. He enjoyed going on day trips to the mountains with his sons, especially his annual spring and fall trips out to the old family farm in Arbon Valley, and to Bull Canyon. He loved reminiscing about his childhood days there driving in his father’s 1936 International pickup, along with many other fond memories. He crafted unique handmade knives, and if you were lucky, one of them would end up as a gift for you. He was an honorable and hard working man, providing and sacrificing much for his family with love. We will miss you so much!

God saw that you were getting tired and a cure was not to be.
So He put His arms around you, and whispered, "Come home to Me."
With tearful eyes we watched you, and saw you pass away,
Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay.
A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands laid to rest,
Our hearts were broken but we know, He only takes the best.
Reed is survived by his sweetheart Sheron, two sons, Brad (Suzy) of Providence and Shawn (Christine) of Logan, and two beautiful granddaughters, Tawni and Nicole who were the light of his life.
Reed was preceded in death by his brother James (Gwena) Willie, sisters Beatrice (Kay) and Vera (Leon). We are so grateful for Ken Breen, a lifelong family friend who has stepped in so many times to help Reed and Sheron. The family would also like to give special thanks to Dallas and Julie Nielsen, Linda and LaDell Atkinson, Juanita and Teresa O’Brien, Sheryl and Alan Fox, Bryce and Kim Cassleman and Todd and Susan Winters. Many thanks in advance to the Hyrum 6th Ward for providing the luncheon.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 13, 2008, at 12 noon, in the Hyrum Stake Center at 600 South 200 East.
