Renuka ‘Renu’ Chatterjee Biswas, 72, peacefully passed this life on Monday, January 12, 2015 at McKay-Dee Hospital.
Renu was born in Kolkata, India on November 25, 1942, a daughter of the late Nirode Chandra and Durga Rani Chatterjee. She graduated from Calcutta University with her Master’s in Bengali Literature in 1967. Counter to the custom of arranged marriage, Renu married the man she loved, Basudeb Biswas in 1962. Together, they raised two children, Sugata and Moushumi, traveled the world, and shared many adventures, large and small.
Renu deeply loved her family, the arts, and the simple joys of cooking. A storm rolling across the valley, dew collected on an early morning leaf, or the beauty of a sunset could inspire a quote from her favorite Indian poet, Rabindranath Tagore. Renu published a short story based on her life in the United States in 1984 in the Indian journal, Sandipin. Renu was a very kind woman with a generous heart who lived her life devoted to her family and friends. She had an infectious smile and a vibrant energy that could light up a room. She served as a surrogate mother to numerous students from the Utah State University community.
She was predeceased by her parents, siblings Lalita Ghosh, her husband, Pandit Jnan Prokash Ghosh, Juthika Mukerjee, her husband Debendranath Mukerjee, and Pradip Chatterjee.
In addition to her husband, children and their spouses, Renu is survived by her sister, Bela Chatterjee and sister-in-law, Kalpana Chatterjee, both of Kolkata, India.
The family wishes to thank the physicians, nurses and staff at McKay-Dee and Logan Regional Hospitals. They would like to extend particular appreciation to Dr. Catherine Foster at McKay-Dee Hospital. Her caring and deep compassion for Renu served as a great source of comfort for the family.
Friends and family may honor her memory through a donation to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals or Save the Children.
