After a full, honorable life, our beloved brother, uncle, and cherished friend Reuben Fred Schmidt passed away in his sleep on November 26, 2012 at the age of 82.
Reuben was born the second son of German immigrants Willy and Martha Schmidt on
September 27, 1930 in Logan, Utah.
Reuben was always quick to express his gratitude; especially to they who were at his side these
past few months. He was friendly, obedient, trusting, and gentle. His greatest joys in life came
from spending time with his many nieces and nephews.
A dependable, hard worker, Reuben worked as a member of the landscape crew on the main
campus of Utah State University for thirty five years. Upon Reuben's retirement in 2002, he
was honored by the president of the university, the late Kermit Hall. President Hall wrote of
Reuben " ... he has gotten to know a lot people, many of whom he calls by first names. It is a well known fact that he never forgets a name ... we will miss his warm greetings and his ability to make us all feel important."
Following his retirement, Reuben moved to Williamsburg Retirement Community where he made many new friends as he was a friend to everyone.
Reuben is survived by his sister Ruth Pendleton, his brother Grant (Susan), and many nieces and
nephews who adored him. In his passing, Reuben joins his father and mother, brother Herbert,
nephew David Schmidt, and brother-in-law Samuel Pendleton.
Our family extends their sincerest gratitude to the staff of Williamsburg for the kind and loving care shown in his last few months.
We welcome acquaintances and friends of Reuben's to his viewing on Thursday from 6:30 until
8:00 and again on Friday at 1O:30 until 11:30 at Allen-Hall Mortuary on Center street in
Logan.
We invite those who knew Reuben wishing to join us in celebrating his life by attending his funeral to be held Friday at noon in the Allen-Hall Mortuary Chapel.
Reuben will be laid to rest in the Logan city Cemetery following the service.
