Rex E. Cook came to the end of the trail Thursday, March 14, 2024, three weeks short of his 92nd birthday. He was born April 3, 1932 in Delta, Utah. The the fifth of eight children to Lucene and Echo Rose Cook. He spent his childhood in Delta. When he was 14, his mother passed away. Soon after his mother’s death he was sent to Gandy, Utah to work on a cattle ranch. It was there he learned the skills of roping, riding, branding and shoeing horses. He spent many years moving around and working on cattle and sheep ranches. He also worked in a mine, leveled land and ran a beaver ranch. This is how he became a jack of all trades.
At the age of twenty, his cousin introduced him to Melba Ann Winn while at the Nephi drive-in where she was working. They were later married on August 14, 1953. In 1959, they were sealed in the Manti temple with three of their children. They continued to live in the Delta area with the addition of two more children.
In 1964, they moved with their five children to Logan. It was there that they added the sixth child to the family. Rex was a hard worker but always made time for fun with friends and family on horse rides, hunting, camping, family vacations and reunions.
He worked his last 26 years of employment for Logan City light and power, where he was the line foreman for sixteen years. He also worked a second job for seven years at Gossner cheese. In addition, he farmed, trained and shoed horses.
He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served in many ward callings. He served as a temple worker in the Logan temple for eleven years. He and Melba Ann served a one year mission at the Logan LDS employment office and a two year Logan stake mission.
He is preceded in death by his parents, three sisters: Phyllis, Rosetta and Donna, four brothers: Clark, Robert, Ray, Stanley and a grandson, Kyler Hansen.
He is survived by his eternal companion Melba Ann, six children and their spouses: Randall (Dawna) Cook, Teresa (Hal) Hansen, Lynnette (Grant) Potter, Keven (Brenda) Cook, Gary (Marilyn) Cook, Jordon (Katia) Cook, 18 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Friday, March 22 at the Allen Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street, Logan. A viewing will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. prior to the service and Thursday, March 21 from 6 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in the Wellsville cemetery.
