Rex Nielson passed away September 25, 2006 at the age
of 84, following surgery due to his diabetes. Rex was
born April 11, 1922 in Redmond, Utah, the first of
three sons of Conrad and Darthella Nielson.
Rex served in the Navy during World War II in the
South Pacific. He met and married Avril Butcher in
Sydney Australia. Rex received his MS degree in 1947
and worked as a research agronomist at USU for 36
years. In retirement, he and Avril traveled
extensively throughout Australia, Southeast Asia,
North Africa and Scandinavia. Rex enjoyed hunting,
fishing, gardening, travel, and working on his lathe
in his wood shop.
Survived by children: Bryce (Doreen) of Garden City;
Janet Bowles of Bountiful; Sue Crain (George) of St.
Simons Island, Ga; Dale (Shigemi) of River Heights;
and Chad (Becky) of Aloha, OR; brother Dee Nielson of
Bountiful; 6 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild.
Preceded in death by his wife, and brother Deaune.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Thursday,
September 28, 2006, at the Allen-Hall Mortuary Chapel,
34 E. Center, Logan. A viewing will be held beginning
at 10:30am on Thursday prior to services at the
mortuary. Interment will be in the Providence City
Cemetery.
