On March 20, 2025, Richard D. Allred left this earthly existence to his heavenly home. He found his beloved “princess,” his wife Gay B. Allred, to share a kiss. He was also welcomed by his sons Kirk B, Richard Stanford, and David Alan, as well as his parents Elwood Byron and Glendora, his siblings and their spouses, and many dear friends.

Richard was born on August 3, 1932, in Salt Lake City, Utah during a family move from Escalante, Utah, to Shelley, Idaho. From an early age, Richard followed his older brothers with eagerness, learning valuable lessons. Whether shooting guns, riding bikes, or delivering newspapers to help support the family on his father’s Seminary teacher’s salary, Richard’s sense of responsibility and hard work was nurtured early. A patriarchal blessing received at an early age became a guiding light throughout his life.

While attending Brigham Young University, Richard and Gay’s love story began. Gay waited while Richard served a 30-month mission to Mexico. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Logan Temple on December 19, 1956, beginning a beautiful and enduring partnership.

In June 1958, Richard graduated from Utah State University, and soon after, he began his service in the United States Air Force as an avionics career officer. His military service took him and his family across the globe, from Colorado, Missouri, and California, to Greenland, Montana, Greece, and Texas. After retiring from the Air Force in 1979, Richard continued to serve in leadership roles, first as a business executive and later as a teacher at Utah State University’s Institute of Religion.

Richard and Gay’s life together was marked by deep faith, love, and joy in daily routines that centered around the Savior Jesus Christ with study, prayer, and family home evenings. They also enjoyed the outdoors through camping, hunting, and spending time with extended family.

As a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Richard served in many significant roles. He served in the Second Quorum of the Seventy, as president of the Quezaltenango, Guatemala Mission, the Missionary Training Center in Guatemala City, and the Guatemala City Guatemala Temple. He also held positions as a bishop, stake patriarch, regional representative, and stake president. Richard and Gay found immense joy in their years of service, which continued to bring them closer together in the gospel.

In 2002, Richard and Gay settled in Logan, Utah, where they spent the last 17 years of their lives together, finding joy in temple service and in each other’s company.

Richard was predeceased by his wife Gay and their sons Kirk, Richard Stanford, David Alan, and his siblings, Malcom, Byron, Priscilla Richins and Eldene Stites. He is survived by his daughters-in-law Dori Allred Schiraldi (Glenn), and Dorene C. Allred. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Chad (Darnell), Heather (George), Amy (Derek), Laura (Tyler), Stephen (Ashley), Jason, Benjamin (Samantha), Caleb (Mybree), Nathan (Millie), Kasia (John), Thomas (Jessica), Anna (Max), Maya (Alex), James, and 38 great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the staff at Terrace Grove Assisted Care Center, Community Nursing Service, and their neighbors and friends for their support, love, and care during his final years.
