HYRUM, UTAH: Richard James, 70, greatest dad, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and good friend to many left us too soon on May 2, 2014, in his favorite chair in his 'man cave"at his home in Hyrum.
Richard was born July 29, 1943 to William R and Laura Leonhardt James. He was educated at Lincoln Elementary and South Cache High School. While in his teenage years, on of his favorite pastimes was swimming at Hyrum Dam. One Saturday afternoon, he noticed a Hyrum girl swimming that went under and did not come back up. He immediately dove in, went down and rescued her. He was so embarrassed that it was put in the newspaper that he had rescued her. He was that type of quiet hero to many.
After graduation, he went to work for Calvin Bassett in the roofing business and from there to a lifetime of construction work. He was known for his hard work, fairness and blunt honesty. He would go to work whether he was sick or not. He traveled to many jobs around the country. One of his favorite stories was while working in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, he sat at a bar next to Clint Eastwood, who was making a movie in the area. Also, seated next to him was Clint's ape "Clyde".
He had a great love for hunting and especially fishing. He loved his garden and could grow a mean horseradish plant as many can attest to its bite. He loved to share the bounty of his garden with everyone. He will especially be missed for his famous 4th of July get togethers at his home to watch the fireworks. Richard had a great love for his family and country.
He is survived by his children, Clark (Samantha), Mary Anne Anderson (Dave), Rick (Cendy), and Susan Crockett (Lance). Many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Brothers and sisters, Patsy Williams (Neil), Clair (Carolyn-deceased), Blaine (Nelda), Boyd (Trudene), Darrell (Cindy), Kathy Keiser (David). Also, Pat Hansen, his fiance and friend. He was preceded indeath by his parents, sister, Laura Lee, sister-in-law, Carolyn James and nephew Chris.
Per Richards wished (no surprise to anyone, as Richard hated fuss over himself) no funeral, only a viewing and graveside services. Viewing to be at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center, Logan, Utah on Wednesday, May 7th from 9:30 to 10:30 am with burial at Hyrum City Cemetery at 11:00 am.
Richard, we love you and will miss you so much, but we know that we will see you again and know that you are happily "fishing for that big one".
