Hyde Park, Utah: Richard Seamons Perkes passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday March 13, 2013, just 13 days prior to his 83rd birthday. Dick was born March 26, 1930 in Hyde Park, Utah, the 5th of 7 children born to Vernon Perkes and Gertrude Seamons Perkes. He loved telling how he had defied death several times in his early life; whooping cough at age 8 weeks, two near drownings, a near electrocution and accidently being shot in the head at age 3. He graduated from North Cache High School in 1948. He met Elaine Ranzenberger at a 4-H camp and they were married September 18, 1951 in the Logan L.D.S. Temple. His heart was broken when she passed away 3 1/2 years ago after 57 years of marriage. Dick and Elaine were the parents of 4 children, Rosie (Kevin) Nyman of Millville, Bonnie (Homer) Mays of Salt Lake City, Evan (Gina) Perkes of Evanston, WY and Mark (Linda) Perkes of Millville. They were blessed with 16 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Dick worked for many years as a farm hand and truck driver.
He is survived by his children; sisters, Donna Wood and Shirley Pearce; brothers, Marvin (JoAnn) Perkes and Sid Perkes; and sister-in-law Jean Perkes. He was preceded in death by his wife Elaine; his parents; his sister Blanche Robbins and brother, Weldon Perkes.
Dad is known by many as one who does quiet acts of service for those around him. We are grateful for the example he has set for all of us.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at noon in the Hyde Park 5th Ward Chapel, 65 East Center in Hyde Park.
