Richard Newton Roberts

July 30, 1946 — June 10, 2016

Logan- Richard Newton Roberts, 69, passed away comfortably & peacefully of Alzheimers on June 10, 2010. He was born in Baltimore, Md to Reginald B Roberts and Mildred Taylor Roberts on July 30, 1946. He married his high school sweetheart, Linda Jones Roberts, June 8, 1968 in Perry Hall, Maryland.
He graduated from Columbia University on a full NROTC scholarship and was commissioned into the Navy upon his graduation. He served in both the Atlantic and Pacific fleets. After discharge he attended the University of Hawaii, Manoa where he received his PhD in clinical psychology.
His career focused on children with special needs and their families. He worked closely with the Maternal Child Health Bureau. He was president of Family Voices for many years. His career took him from the University of North Carolina to Kamehameha Schools, Hawaii and Utah State University where he was the director of the Early Intervention Research Institute (EIRI) until his retirement.
He was a member of the Logan First Presbyterian Church.
He enjoyed traveling, skiing, running, biking and fishing. He completed several marathons and triathlons. Above all, he loved his family and friends most.
He is survived by his wife, Linda and two sons, Phillip and Neil. He is also survived by three sisters, Martha, Ellen, and Phyllis and one brother, Edward.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Susan. The family thanks the loving and supportive care we received at Autumn Care Assisted Living and Community Nursing Service (CNS).
