Richard L. Howell

Richard L. Howell, 89, passed away peacefully at home in River Heights, November 11, 2008.
He was born May 25, 1919 in Logan, Utah to Luther Maughan and Julia Nibley Howell.
He married Barbara Ann Budge, also from Logan, September 28, 1946. Richard graduated from Logan High School, and attended Utah State Agricultural College, graduating with a B.S. degree in Business Administration and a Reserve Commission. While he was going to school he worked at Bryce Canyon, Zions Park and the Grand Canyon where he became an excellent cook. After college he was called to active duty in the Army, spent tours of duty in the U.S. and spent 38 months in the European Theatre during World War II, including stays in Iceland, England, France and Germany. After returning to Utah he spent several months in San Francisco as an accountant. Richard came back to Logan where he met and married his best friend, fishing companion and “dreamboat” Barbara Ann Budge. They were later sealed in the Logan Temple. He was a well known and respected Banker at First Security Bank of Logan for 29 years.
Richard is survived by his amazing wife, six children, 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his mother, father and baby brother.
Richard served as a faithful High Priest in the River Heights 1st Ward. He was an accomplished pianist and composer. He won many awards with his expertise on the clarinet. Richard was involved with the River Heights Lions, the Chamber of Commerce and the Logan Townsingers. He especially enjoyed fishing in the mountains with his sweetheart. Richard and his unique sense of humor will always be remembered and appreciated.
He is dearly love by his wife and family.
Funeral services will be in the Allen-Hall Mortuary Chapel, Saturday, November 15, 2008 at 12:00 p.m. Friends may call at the mortuary before the funeral between 10:45-11:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Logan City Cemetery.
