Richard L Evans. 88. of North Logan, Utah, (formerly of Manchester, NH) died
November 3, 2008 at Logan Regional Hospital after a period of declining health.
Born on April 6, 1920 in Wentworth, NH, he was the son of Claude B. and Mary E. Evans. He married (Mary) Virginia Bonner un June 30, 1954 at St Rafael's Church in Manchester, NH. He has resided in Wentworth, Bedford, and Manchester, NH, Pendleton, SC, and North Logan, Utah.
Richard (Dick) graduated from Plymouth High School 1n 1938, received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of New Hampshire in 1942, and graduated from the New Hampshire College of Accounting and Commerce in 1959.
Dick was a World War II veteran, enlisting shortly after graduating from UNH, and achieved the rank of Second Lieutenant. He received his silver wings and commission as an aerial navigator on January 13, 1945.
Dick's career was in building construction. He was an athlete who played baseball from a young age through early adulthood and competed in bowling and horseshoe tournaments throughout his life. He also competed in the New Hampshire Chapter of the Senior Olympics and participated in several national level Senior Olympic Games. Dick was a dedicated sports fan and enjoyed watching his children participate in a variety of sports. He was an avid reader and lifelong learner with a great memory for details, dates, and facts. Dick and his family enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, sharing his love of history and his country.
His wife, M. Virginia Evans, predeceased Dick in 2001. He is survived by two daughters, Pamela J. Hanson of St. Johnsbury, VT, and Patricia A Evans of North Logan, UT; one son, Thomas M.. Evans of Indian Trail, NC; one special grandson, Nathaniel B.
Hanson of St. Johnsbury, VT; two brothers, Howard W. Evans of Haverhill, NH, and Donald E. Evans of Plymouth, NH; one sister, Lucille I. Tuttle of Altus, OK; and nieces and nephews.
The funeral services will be at the Durning, Bykowski & Young Funeral Home, 285 Manchester Street, Manchester, NH. followed by a burial ceremony at the old St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
