Robert (Rob) Barnett, 30, passed away Friday, Dec. 30, 2011, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Rob was born on Feb. 2, 1981, in Logan, UT, to Derri Dee Leonard and Bill Barnett. After graduating from Logan High School in 1999, he served an LDS Mission in Oakland, CA. Rob earned a degree in Electrical Engineering from Utah State University in 2011 and was employed as an Engineer with JAB Broadband Company.
Rob enjoyed adventures of all kinds – whether he was camping and fishing with his brothers (which was ALWAYS an adventure); jumping over the Logan Canyon highway on his skis or leaping from the tallest cliff at Lake Powell; spear fishing in the ocean or trying to perfect his slalom turns on the water; fixing his car with a popcorn popper and a kitchen knife or ‘conquering’ the wild outdoors, Rob’s zest for life and incredible quick wit brought smiles and laughter to anyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
His brothers are especially grateful for the opportunity they had to live with him for the past five years. They enjoyed barbequing, watching Jazz games, fishing, camping, backpacking, and shooting guns. Rob will be remembered by his brothers for always bringing humor to any situation. He will be forever remembered as Rob, Robbie, Rob-Bob, or Rabbi.
While attending Utah State University, Rob was part of USU’s Get Away Special Team, a group of student researchers selected to participate in NASA’s Microgravity University program in Houston, Texas, two years in a row. Rob was a licensed ham radio operator. He had a brilliant mind and loved the challenge of solving problems.
Rob is survived by his parents, Derri Dee Leonard and Bill (Diane) Barnett, his siblings, Jason (Taryl) Barnett, Brittney Bellon, Josh (Angie) Barnett, Brigitte (Josh) Felt, Nikki (Ian) Campbell, and Shaun Barnett, his loving grandparents, adoring nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.
Rob was truly a remarkable, caring, and loving son. He was a special gift from Heavenly Father to his parents and siblings and will remain a “treasure” in our hearts until we meet again.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 5, 2012, at 12:00 pm, in the LDS Lundstrom Park Chapel, 1260 N. 1600 E, Logan, UT, with President Byron Burnham conducting. A viewing will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. prior to services. Internment with be in the Logan Cemetery. Condolences and thoughts may be expressed to the family online at
