Robert Loy Cook passed away surrounded by family on October 14, 2023 from Merkel Cell Carcinoma, a rare cancer. Bob was born February 17, 1955 to Noel Laker Cook and Lila Mae Allen Cook in Concord, California and was raised in Logan, Utah.
Bob attended Hillcrest Elementary, Logan Jr High School, and graduated from Logan High School in 1973. He enjoyed staying in touch with his high school friends. Bob served an LDS mission to the Netherlands and later attended Utah State University.
Bob met Lara Thompson during their time at Utah State and the two were married on June 27, 1979 in the Logan, Utah Temple. Together they had three children, Ryan, Jill, and Lindsey.
One of Bob’s greatest joys was being a grandpa. He had seven grandchildren who knew that Bob was always ready for a card or board game, playing outside, going on a walk or sneaking them a treat. He was always smiling and laughing around his grandkids and they knew Grandpa Bob was always going to say yes to having fun.
As an early technology pioneer, Bob found his greatest professional success. He found a niche of refurbishing and selling Apple computers and owned and operated Sun Remarketing for decades. Bob took great pride in his career accomplishments and was excited when part of his professional story was featured on a recent documentary about Apple’s Lisa computer. Bob spent the later part of his career as a software programmer for government agencies.
Bob was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He loved serving in the church and enjoyed service in six Bishoprics. He had a particular interest in genealogy and family history. He loved sharing stories about ancestors who were pioneers and crossed the plains to help settle Salt Lake City and the surrounding areas. He also had ancestors who were on the Mayflower.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents Noel and Lila, and his sister, Carolyn Christenson. He was survived by his siblings Allen (Julie) Cook of North Logan, UT, Dan (Vicki) Cook of Twin Falls, ID, wife (Lara), his son, Ryan (Emma-Lee) Cook and their children Abi (17), Jayce (15), Macy (10), and Kade (6), his daughter Jill Cook, his daughter Lindsey (Mike) Martineau and their children Nash (11), Tagg (9), and Ames (6).
Bob and his family have felt an overwhelming outpour of love and support from friends, family and all healthcare teams that have been part of this journey. The gratitude that has been felt is enormous and we will always remember all the incredible blessings that were part of Bob’s story. We hope to share that love and generosity with others as a way to pay it forward.
