Robert Eldred Charlton
September 16, 1943 — December 9, 2017
Robert Eldred Charlton’s mortal story concluded on Saturday, December 9, in Logan, Utah, surrounded by his loving family. Robert was born in Ogden, Utah, on September 16, 1943. He attended Ben Lomond High School in Ogden, Utah, and completed Bachelors, Masters, and Doctoral (in clinical psychology) degrees at Utah State University. He was a proud Aggie throughout his life.
Robert shared his life with Linda Charlton, his wife of 48 years, and his four children: Heather Haggart (Husband Randy, Santa Clarita, CA), Rebecca Charlton (Husband Dave McCulloch, Logan, UT), Shawn R. Charlton (Wife Veda, Conway, AR), and Cade Charlton (Wife Andrea, Orem, UT). His legacy of faith and love will be carried forward by his ten grandchildren: Ethan (16) and Allison (14) Haggart; Ryker (7) and Trevon (6) McCulloch , Ashlin (13), Jaxon (12), and Jeron (10) Charlton; and Lillian (8), Secily (6), and Coulson (3) Charlton.
An avid fisherman, he authored the Yellowstone Fishing Guide and took great pleasure in acquainting friends and family with his favorite fishing holes throughout the region. He enjoyed racquetball, golf, and travel, and was instrumental in teaching his children to cut and load wood, shovel snow, mow lawns, and obey and respect their mother.
He served as a missionary for the LDS church in the Northern Germany Mission and as a senior missionary with Linda in the Tempe, Arizona mission among the Apache people in Cibecue, Arizona. He served as bishop of the St. Anthony 2nd ward and as an ordinance worker in the Idaho Falls temple. He was an Eagle Scout and participated in the scouting program throughout his life.
Robert worked as the Director of Special Education for Tri-District Special Education Services serving Fremont, Sugar, and Teton school districts in Idaho. He also had a private practice as a mental health counselor. He was elected a member of the Fremont County School Board 2004 to 2006 and president of the St. Anthony Rotary Club.
Robert devoted countless hours to serving others in his professional capacity, in his church callings, in his community and in his most important ministry: as a husband and father. We will miss him every day.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, at the Green Canyon LDS Ward (2540 North 400 East, North Logan), December 16, with a viewing from 9:30 to 11:00 and funeral services beginning at 11:30. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Perpetual Education Fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, http://give.lds.org/pef , or spending extra time with your family and loved ones.
