Robert McKay Hutchison
Logan- Robert McKay Hutchison died on Friday, November 2,2012 of kidney cancer.
He was born to Edmond Dewey and Verna Carver Hutchison on December 12,1927. He married Arlene Merrell on August 18, 1949.
Robert graduated from Logan High School in the spring of 1946 and joined the army as a Paratrooper. After the army discharge, he entered Utah State University, formally known as the Utah Agricultural College, and graduated in 1951 with a B.S. degree in political science. Robert then went to work at the Gilt Edge Flour Mills, the family business.
Robert was a hunter, played golf, loved to fly fish in Montana on the Madison River and ski. Throughout his life and into his eighties he skied with six men who were known as "The Posse".
Robert loved music, history, poetry and visiting museums and art galleries. He belonged to the LOS church, logan Golf and Country Club, Round Valley Hunting Club and Sigma Chi Fraternity. He loved working at the Gilt Edge Flour Mills. After selling his half of the business to his brother, Eddie, he continued to work at the mill. He cared for the grounds and helped maintain the mill well into his eighties.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Arlene; his daughters Leigh Hutchison of Salt Lake City and Ann Hutchison and Brent McMillan of Logan; grandchildren Charles Robert McMillan of Logan, Mary Elizabeth McMillan of Salt Lake City, Lauren Ann Hanna McMillan of Logan. Brother Eddie and Audrey Hutchison of North Logan; sister Colleen Hutchison Croxford of Alexandria, Virginia; brother-in-law Dr. Preston and Shirley Merrell of Pleasant View, Utah. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Grave side services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM at the Logan City Cemetery, 1000 North 1200 East, Logan.
Special thanks to Dr. Robert Nash, Dr. Ali Ben-Jacob and all nurses and staff that cared for Robert during his battle with cancer.
