On Friday evening, April 19th, 2013, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather Robert LeRoy Jensen passed away after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Robert died in his home surrounded by loved ones at the age of 81. Robert was born January 16th, 1932 to Lars Mentor and Rose McMurdie Jensen. He has three siblings, his oldest sister Dorothy Bertin (91) of Blackfoot, Idaho, his older brother Harold Jensen (Deceased), and youngest brother Sidney Jensen (79) of Brigham City, Utah.
On June 30, 1956 he married Peggy Ann Parker in the Logan, Utah LDS temple. After several moves across the country, and serving his country in the medical corps in Fairbanks, Alaska during the early sixties, Robert and Peggy settled in Logan, Utah where they have been ever since. Robert has one daughter and five sons. Robert Todd Jensen, Debra (Bruce) Ashcroft, Steven LeRoy (Kelly) Jensen, Scott Mentor (Jill) Jensen, Shawn Kevin (Jennifer) Jensen, and John David (Emily) Jensen. His kids along with 25 grand-children and 2 great grand-children make up the Jensen family.
In June 1957, Robert graduated from University of Utah School of Medicine with honors. He graduated in the top 5% of his class, and has valued the importance of education his entire life. He applied that to his medical career and was an extremely successful medical professional. Robert retired from Ophthalmology in 1998, after working for 34 years with his partners Dr. Keith Gates, Dr. Russell Warren, and Dr. Jon Siler. He was an active member of the LDS church and has served the church in many callings and capacities. He served a 2 year mission working at Logan genealogy center and enjoyed it thoroughly. In fact, from the day he was released from his mission to approximately a few months before he passed, he continued to volunteer on a weekly basis at the Logan Regional Family History Center, helping others learn about their heritage. He loved spending time with his family and especially enjoyed visits from the grandchildren.
Robert loved life and being busy. He strongly believed in the benefits of hard work and had a passionate sense of duty in all aspects of his life. As his wisdom grew throughout the years, he also learned to how occasionally stop and smell the roses along the way, particularly if they were located on a golf course. He loved golf. As he entered retirement, there wasn’t many things that kept him away from the golf course. Even the “honey dos” often came under scrutiny. He loved his golfing “buddies” and came to very much enjoy the friendships as much as the golfing. Robert enjoyed a variety of hobbies over the years but none as faithfully enjoyed as golf. Robert did enjoy supporting the Utah State Aggies and was a ticket holder for basketball and football every year since the late sixties.
Robert was proceeded in death by his mother and father, and older brother Harold. He is survived by his wife Peggy Ann Parker Jensen, all of his children, grandchildren, and great grand-children. He carries on now in the after-life preparing a mansion for those of his posterity to follow.
There will be a viewing from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, April 25th at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center Street in Logan, and again prior to funeral services from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Cliffside Eastridge Ward building, 1350 Eastridge Drive. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 26th at the Eastridge building followed by interment in the Logan City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Robert and Peggy would encourage those able to contribute to the general missionary fund of the LDS church or other charitable organization. We would like to thank the many medical and Encompass hospice professionals who helped with Roberts’s end of life care.
