Robert Neil Olsen (Big Bob), 91, passed away peacefully in Logan, Monday February 27, 2017 surrounded by his family. Bob was born August 23, 1925 in College Ward, UT to Lee Elmo and Catherine Fletcher Olsen, Bob lived in Young Ward all of his life attending Cache County Schools. Bob served in the Army during World War II seeing action in the Philippines and Japan.
Bob, was introduced to his future wife Marie Nielsen of Ogden, by his cousin Dorthy. They were married in the Salt Lake City Temple August 19, 1948. He and Marie purchased the land and home in Young Ward adjacent to his father’s where Bob farmed for the remainder of his life. Bob worked on Second Street in Ogden and with Jensen Brothers Herefords, Young Ward, until he began work at the Logan Post Office in 1955.
Bob and Marie had four children, Michael (Farmington), Mark (Luci, Young Ward) Patricia (Jerry Jones, Young Ward) Chad (Deceased) (Melodee, Young Ward).
He has 27 grandchildren and over 36 great-grandchildren. Bob was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served many years in scouting touching a myriad of young men’s lives. He served as a clerk and counselor in several Bishoprics. Bob served faithfully leading the singing in Priesthood Meeting for over 30 years. He and Marie served several years in the Logan Temple and served a Family History Mission in Logan.
Bob was preceded in death by his sweetheart Marie, a son Chad, his parents, sisters Helene Saunders and Grace Olsen, brother Larry Olsen. He is survived by his 3 children, their spouses, a daughter in law, and many grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers, Warren Olsen (Spring Texas) and Christian Olsen (Hyrum UT.).
Funeral services will be held Friday March 3, 2017 in the Young Ward Chapel, 2394 West 2200 South, Young Ward, at 11 AM. A viewing will be held Thursday evening at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E Center, Logan from 6 to 8 PM. A viewing will help from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the Young Ward Chapel on Friday. Internment will be in the Wellsville Cemetery.
