Robert Taylor

LOGAN - Robert “Bob” Earle Taylor, 89, of Logan, Utah, died Wednesday, May 29, 2013.
Bob was born in Milwaukee, WI, to Hattie M. (Keltner) and William A. Taylor. He grew up with an older brother, William (deceased).
Bob attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison from 1943-44, served as a special agent in the C.I.C. with the U.S. Army in Europe from 1945-46, then returned to the university and graduated in 1948 with a degree in agronomy.
His first job after graduation was with the Soil and Water Conservation Research Station near LaCrosse, WI, as a soil conservationist. While leading a tour of local students at the station he met their teacher and his future wife, Elizabeth (Betty) Lucille Herold (deceased April 22, 2013).
Bob and Betty married in 1953 in LaCrosse and built their dream home in rural Wisconsin overlooking Lake Neshonic. Their children arrived in the next few years: daughter, Tamara Pluth (Stephen C. Thompson) and son, Paul (Julie) Taylor.
In 1963, Bob’s career took the family to Lancaster, WI, and then Boise, ID, where he was the assistant to the branch chief of the Northwest Branch of Soil and Water Conservation Research for six years. In 1972, he transferred to Logan where he worked as the assistant to the area director until his retirement in 1981.
Bob was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, having served on the board of trustees and on the Session. He was a member of Harmony Lodge #21F and AM. Bob served on the troop committee and as the treasurer of Boy Scout Troop 1 for more than 30 years. He enjoyed his model railroad hobby and was a member of the Hostlers Model Railroad Club.
Bob enjoyed the great outdoors – fishing, hiking and playing golf. He was an avid gardener and took great joy in watching songbirds come to his many bird feeders. He loved American history and traveled extensively with Betty to visit historic sites in the U.S., most noteworthy following in the footsteps of Lewis and Clark. He loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren Samuel and Joseph Taylor (Lacey, WA) and his nephew William J. Taylor (Berkeley, CA).
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, June 27, 2013 at the First Presbyterian Church in Logan.

Bob enjoyed trains of any age, shape, or size and he and Betty never missed an opportunity to ride a historic railroad. Betty departed five weeks before Bob and he missed her terribly. He has arrived at the station and they are together again.
