Roderick J Wiberg

Roderick John Wiberg, 95, of Logan passed away Wednesday, December 25, 2013, surrounded by his family. Rod was born in Riverton, Utah, on August 18, 1918. He was the third child of eight born to Marchell Page and John Irving Wiberg.
Growing up during the depression, on a 80-acre farm, taught Rod the value of service and the rewards of a hard day's work. Two mottos Rod lived by was "Make do...Do without...Wear it out" and "What good can I do today!" During his lifetime Rod has seen many advancements from electricity, indoor plumbing and automobiles through to the technological age of men on the moon.
Rod graduated from Jordan High School in 1936. He then attended Utah Agricultural College (Utah State University) from 1938 -1941 where he met the girl of his dreams, Eileen Georgia Allen.
In 1941 Rod joined the Army serving in World War II. After the war, he joined the Utah National Guard and was battery commander. He served two years in the Korean War and retired as a major from the Utah National Guard.
On September 26, 1941, during a two-week furlough, Rod and Eileen were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple for time and all eternity. Eileen died April 5, 2003. They had 62-years of romance in this life and now their marriage will continue through eternity. They were blessed with five children, one dying soon after birth. Rod and (Kathy) Wiberg of Denver, Colorado; Maurice and (Linda) Wiberg of Hyrum, Utah; (Lynn) and Kristy Merrill of Roy, Utah; (Joe) and Julia Arave of North Logan, Utah; 33 grandchildren and 98 great grandchildren. Rod's family was his greatest joy.
Rod lived in the same home in Logan on the corner of 4th North and 1st West from 1945 to his passing. Working side-by-side with his sweetheart, they created a "Bit of Heaven" and a beautiful flower garden to enjoy and share with passers by.
Rod worked as a cabinet maker for 36 years at Ace Mill and Fixture Company doing what he loved, creating masterpieces with wood. His fine workmanship can be seen in hundreds of business, schools, churches and homes. To the time of his passing he was still restoring antiques and repairing furniture. One of his favorite projects was the work he did for the Fifteenth Ward Chapel where he was one of the few charter members remaining.
Rod was taught at the feet of his mother and developed a love for our Savior Jesus Christ. He was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved to serve the Lord. Throughout his life he served the Lord in various capacities; Bishop of the Fifteenth Ward, Counselor in the Bishopric of the Utah State University Branch, High Councilor, recommend clerk in the Logan Temple for 15-years and patron doing sessions each morning until his death. He made many friends and must have had a glorious reunion greeting him at his death from the thousands of persons he had vicariously done temple work for.
Rod is survived by a brother, Scott Wiberg of Sunset, Utah a sister, Annalene Swenson of Orem, Utah and a sister-in-law, Alice Wiberg of Manhattan Beach, California. He was proceeded in death by his parents, wife, sisters, Harriett Daines and Phylis Gordon, brothers, Page, Dean and Robert, two grandchildren, Ryan Wiberg, Jessie Wiberg, and one great grandchild, Elizabeth Wiberg.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, December 30, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Logan 15th Ward, 125 W. 600 N. Logan, Utah. A viewing for family and friends will be held on Sunday evening, December 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Allen-Hall Mortuary at 34 East Center Street, Logan, Utah and on Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to services at the church. Interment will be at the Logan Cemetery at 951 N. 1200 E. Logan, Utah.
Missed will be Rod's warm jovial personality and the framework upon which we centered our family activities.
