Roland George Davies, Jr. passed away peacefully on June 5, 2018 in Hyde Park, Utah at the age of 85. Roland had been in declining health for several years. He was born December 5, 1932 in Oakland, California. Roland was the only son of Roland G. Davies, Sr. and Phyllis Murl Kent. He lived in Oakland while growing up and went to Fremont High School. He was in the United States Navy from 1957 to 1959 with an honorable discharge. Roland worked several jobs until starting his own business, Allied Fire Protection in 1965. He was co-founder and President of the company until his retirement in July, 1990. He always had a love for cars, boats and airplanes. Roland took up flying at the age of 50 and got his single engine pilots license. He owned three airplanes over the years and finally sold his Bonanza in 2000 and retired from flying at the age of 68. He married Shirlene (Charli) Thurston, originally from Hyde Park, Utah in 1974. They lived in Orinda until 1999 when they decided to live the winters in Indian Wells, California and the summers in Lake Tahoe. Roland and Charli are members of Indian Wells Country Club from 1999 to the present. In 2017, they had to give up Lake Tahoe due to Roland's declining health. He is survived by his wife, and one daughter, Denise Davies of Kalispell, Montana from a previous marriage. He also has one grand-daughter, Kaitlyn Rose Greenwood from Seattle, Washington. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews in Utah. Roland will be remembered for his quick wit and sense of humor. He will surely be missed but never forgotten.
We would like to personally thank Dr. Joseph Scherger, Reliance Hospice, LaBella Gardens, Autumn Care and Hospice of Utah for their continued care and support. At Roland's request, there will be no Memorial or Funeral. There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date for close friends and family. Donations can be made to the charity of your choice.
