Roland Lynn Nielsen

July 12, 1921 — October 19, 2017

Roland Lynn Nielsen, 96, passed away October 19, 2017, at Maple Springs Care Center in
North Logan, UT. Lynn was born July 12, 1921 in Hyrum, UT, the sixth of ten children of
Joseph F and Adella Allen Nielsen. He graduated from South Cache High School and learned his trade of farming while growing up and farming with his dad. He served in the Southern States Mission for the LDS Church. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy as a radio operator in the Philippine Islands.

After the war, Lynn married Vada Tucker in the Manti LDS Temple. They made their first home in Hyrum while Lynn built a dairy farm in Nibley. In 1960, Lynn built a family home on the dairy where they resided until moving to Providence when he retired in 1988.

Lynn has been an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints serving in various ward and stake leadership positions. He and Vada served a mission in the Salt Lake City Temple Square Mission and were officiators in the Logan LDS Temple for 5 years. Lynn was also active in Farm Bureau and Lions Club. He was president of the Hyrum Blacksmith Fork Irrigation Company for 25 years and a member of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Services county committee for nine years. He served 4 years on the Nibley City Council.

Lynn and Vada enjoyed traveling with family and friends. Dad was proud to say that he had
traveled to all 50 states, along with the Scandinavian countries, Europe, Canada, and Mexico. He is survived by his six children. Barbara (Bob) McKinney, Lake Tapps, WA; Richard (Louise), Nibley, UT; Paulette Dunn, Ogden, UT; Kristie (Kevin) Haslam, North Logan, UT; Vicky (Scott) Robbins, Salt Lake City, UT; and JoAnn Naylor, Brigham City, UT. They have 21 grandchildren, and 55 great-grandchildren. His two sisters, MaeVon Wolff, Chicago, IL and Betty Hawkins, Antioch, CA. His two sister-in-laws Bonnie Nielsen, Hyrum, UT and LuDean Seeley, Ogden, UT. Preceded in death by his sweet wife Vada; his parents, his brothers - Allan, Blaine, Reece and his sisters - Kaye Nielsen, Alta Andreason, Joyce Lower, and LaRee Lyon.

The family would like to thank the staff at Cache Valley Assisted Center, Sunshine Terrace, and Maple Springs Care Center for the wonderful care and concern shown to our dad.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at 12:00 pm at Providence 5th
Ward, 262 Canyon Road, Providence, UT. A viewing will be held at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street, Logan, UT on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 from 6-8 pm and Wednesday morning at the church from 10:30 - 11:30 am. Burial will be at the Hyrum City Cemetery with military honors. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.allenmortuaries.net .
