Roma Daines, 85, passed away peacefully on Nov. 10, 2007, at her home in Logan, Utah. She was born on January 7, 1922, in Logan, at the Budge Memorial Hospital. She was one of six children born to Clarence Ashcroft Hurren and Carrie Follett Hurren. Roma was preceded in death by her parents, a twin sister, Rula (Ardith) Farrell, 3 brothers, Sidney (Jenness) Hurren, Bruce (Kathy) Hurren and an infant, and two daughters, Denise and Dot. She was raised in Hyde Park and married James Norman Daines (deceased) in the Logan LDS Temple. They later divorced.
She is survived by her sister, Connie (Arthur; deceased) Peterson of Smithfield, and children Dixie (Larry) Freeman of South Weber; Donna (Ralph) Jacobson of Sacramento, CA; Scott (Jan) Daines, of Hyde Park; Clair (Brenda) Daines of North Logan; Debbie Daines of Logan; Deon Daines of Lakewood, CO; 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, along with sister-in-laws Jenness Hurren of Hyde Park and Kathy May of Smithfield.
She was a lifelong member of the LDS Church, taught Mutual and loved temple work. Until her health failed Roma attended the LDS 17th Ward in Logan.
Roma was employed at USU for 18 years. She was very well liked by both students and faculty and known for her friendliness and pleasant nature. Roma retired in 1993.
She loved the outdoors, enjoyed mowing her lawn and taking walks around the neighborhood as long as she was able to. She was also a sports enthusiast and especially loved basketball. For years she was a season ticket holder to the Utah State Basketball and Football Games and also followed the Utah Jazz. Roma fondly remembered her North Cache High School years when she was a Song Leader. She was able to attend several of the more recent reunions and was happy to become reacquainted with classmates. She was a dear and devoted friend to many and cherished by family members. Her home was a centerpiece for family gatherings and it wasn’t unusual to see kids and grand kids enjoying popsicles and candy that Grandma Daines provided.
