Soda Springs, Idaho --- Ronald Lee Schaeffer, 78, gently returned to his Heavenly Father Thursday, February 18, 2016. Born on June 20, 1937 in Ontario, Oregon to Lester Moore and Emma Mayer, he was subsequently adopted by his father, Henry Schaeffer. He was raised in Paul, Idaho in a hard-working farming family along with two sisters and two brothers.
Ronald met the love of his life, Pauline Bybee, in Soda Springs, Idaho. He was sixteen and she was fourteen. They courted until she graduated from high school in 1956. They were married on September 28, 1956, getting sealed in the Logan Temple October 3, 1958.
The couple had six children: Leaunda, Trina, Timothy Ronald, Dianna, Ronda Sue, and Daniel Henry. Ronald was a devoted family man his entire life. He loved his family and instilled in them moral character, a strong work ethic, and a love for the outdoors.
Ronald was an excellent provider for his family. He worked at farming and various labor jobs until he gained employment at Logan City School District in 1967. He spent over 30 years working as building and grounds maintenance before retiring.
Ronald and Pauline welcomed seven grandchildren into their lives. Ronald was an amazing grandfather who always had time to share with his loved ones.
He is survived by two sons and three daughters Leaunda (Hoyet) Hemphill of Macomb, ILL; Tim (Shawna) Schaeffer of Boise, ID; Dianna Schaeffer of Logan, UT; Ronda (Jason) South of Soda Springs, ID; Dan (Jinelle) Schaeffer of Coolidge, AZ; Seven grandchildren – Sean Hemphill, Laura Hemphill, Julia Alber, Catrina South, Dylan South, Canon South, and Tara South. Also, three brothers and two sisters – Juanita (Shelby) Zimmerman, Angela (Bob) Hardy, Steve (Janice) Schaeffer, David Schaeffer, and Carter (Melanie) Papke. Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, his darling wife, and his infant daughter.
Memorial services will be celebrated Thursday, February 25, 2016 at Allen-Hall Mortuary. A viewing will be held at 9:30 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. The interment will be held in Soda Springs that afternoon. If unable to attend the services, condolences may be expressed online at
