YOUNG WARD, UTAH: Ross David Olsen, 87, passed away
31 May 2007 in Logan, Utah from complications of
cancer.
Born 19 April 1920 in Logan, Utah, son of David
Leroy and Marian Nelson Olsen. South Cache High
School was his alma mater, graduating in the class of
1938. He entered military service 3 December 1941,
initially trained as a half-track driver. The
majority of his service was as a pilot instructor in
the Army Air Corps, retiring as a 1st Lt., 6 November
1945. He married Jean Hale 2 April 1947 in the Logan
Temple. She passed away 28 February 1948. In
September 1948, Ross was called to serve in the
Canadian Mission and was released September 1950. He
married Norma Smith 30 August 1951 in the Cardston,
Alberta Temple. He graduated from Utah State
Agricultural College, 9 June 1952 in animal husbandry
which became his life’s work including 20 years with
Cache Valley Breeding Association. He served as bishop
for Young Ward from September 1954–September 1959.
Ross and Norma served in the New Mexico, Albuquerque
Mission, April 1989–May 1990 where he served as branch
president for the Estancia Branch. July of 1990, Ross
was called to officiate in the Logan Temple, where he
served until March of 2007. His love for the land was
only surpassed by his love for his family.
He is survived by his wife, Norma; children:
Gregory (Janet) Olsen, Manon (Paul) Zaluski and Eric
(Valerie) Olsen; grandchildren: Angela (Dan)
Callister, Aimee (Andy) Bryan, Jordan, Zach, James,
Sarah, Anna, Rebecca and Zane; great-grandchildren:
Joshua, Abigail and Matthew, brothers: Rulon, Norman
and Evan and sisters: Verna and Anna all of Young
Ward.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother,
Keith; wife, Jean and daughter, Janeen.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 2,
2007 at 12:00 p.m. in the College-Young Ward Chapel,
2394 West 2200 South, just south of Logan. Viewings
will be held Friday evening from 6:00–8:00 p.m. at the
Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street, and from
10:30–11:30 a.m. prior to the funeral at the
College-Young Chapel. Internment will be in the Logan
Cemetery with military honors.
