Ross W. Whipple

Logan, Utah: Ross W. Whipple passed away Friday, February 1, 2008, in Logan Utah at the age of 85. He was born Dec. 4, 1922, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
He graduated from Granite High School and served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a proud alumnus of the University of Utah where he was affiliated with the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity.
As a respected Geophysicist, he did consulting work for various mining and engineering companies including U.S. Steel, Kennecott, and Texaco. He traveled throughout the world during his career and especially enjoyed working in remote areas of Africa and the Australian Outback.
Ross displayed his unique sense of humor by drawing cartoons, some of which were published in the Salt Lake Tribune. His family looked forward to receiving his personalized holiday cards.
An accomplished author, he had many award winning short stories published. He was a member of the League of Utah Writers.
He was married for 25 years to Alice (Candy) Bernard, they were later divorced.
Survived by daughter: Rosalyn Hampton (Guy) of Logan, Utah. grandchildren: Amanda Hampton of Salt Lake City, Christopher Hampton of Logan, Tommy and Ryan Kolencik of Dallas Georgia, sisters: Gay Saunders of Salt Lake City, Helen Ingals (Ken) of Auburn, Washington, and son-in- law: R.J. Kolencik of Dallas Georgia.
Preceded in death by his parents Anor and Aurilla Watkins Whipple, and daughter Melissa Kolencik.
A private family service will be held on Tuesday, February 5. Burial will be in the Logan City Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Allen-Hall Mortuary. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.allenmortuaries.net
