Ruby Loretta Olsen

Ruby Loretta Olsen, our beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother left this earth on March 9, 2009, to join her husband Gene Vernon Olsen.
She was born April 11, 1931 in Logan, Utah to Moses “P” Olsen and Coila Hill Olsen. She was born the 6th of 7 children. She was raised in College Ward on the family farm. Ruby married Gene Vernon Olsen from Hyrum, Utah on January 15, 1951 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Mom was a very talented person who enjoyed sewing for her children. She made beautiful cakes and perfect candy. It was important for Mom to have a beautiful yard with many flowers and flower beds. Mother had an interest in history and loved learning about the places her children lived.
Mother was a loving and supportive partner with her husband Vern. They fulfilled their dream of having a farm together. Along with their family, their farm was their life’s focus where they spent many hours working together.
Ruby was preceded in death by her husband Vern on January 21 of this year. Ruby is survived by her children, four daughters and three sons: Carolyn Adams, Hyrum, Cathy Anderson (Dale) Fowkes, Millville, Jerri Lynn (Golden) Jensen, Hyrum, Mitchell (Mary Kaye) Olsen, Hyrum, Tamara Sutherland, Salt Lake City, Utah, Bart Olsen, Hyrum, and Chet (Jurene) Olsen, Hyrum. Mother’s posterity numbers 20 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Ruby is also survived by her siblings, Gwen (Paul) Pehrson, Taylorville, Utah and Grace Kofford, Rigby, Idaho.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Elmer and sister-in-law Rose Olsen, three sisters, Elnora Smith, Lola Pehrson and Rachel Spillman, one son-in-law, Don Jay Anderson, and brothers-in-law George Pehrson, Kent Kofford and Prentice Smith.
We are grateful for the many kind hands at Cache Valley Assisted Living, Sunshine Terrace, and Alpine Hospice. Thank you also to Dr. Jeffrey Strong.
Funeral services will be held at 12 PM on Thursday, March 12, 2009 in the Hyrum 7th Ward Chapel, 245 North Apple Drive in Hyrum. A viewing will be held on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 PM at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street in Logan, and prior to services on Thursday from 10:30 to 11:30 AM at the church. Interment will be in the Hyrum City Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.allenmortuaries.net
