LOGAN UTAH – Russell Briel, 89, passed away peacefully Sunday, November 1, 2009 in Logan, Utah.
Russell was born October 1, 1920 in Trenton New Jersey to Charles Jacob and Anna Rebecca McCullic Briel. He was the 13th of 15 children born to Charles and Anna. He married Dorothy Delores Vice on July 3, 1947. They resided in New Jersey. After retirement and the passing of Dorothy, he moved to Logan, Utah where he and his companion Bonna Ralphs have resided since.
He served in the U.S. Army as an airplane engine mechanic during World War II. He was later employed by General Motors as a machinist for most of his career and until retirement. After retiring and moving to Logan he enjoyed machine work and woodwork. Russell was a skilled craftsman. He also enjoyed photography and playing with his computer. He and Bonna would take many long drives throughout northern Utah and southern Idaho where he would take pictures all along the way.
Russell is survived by: Carol (Mike) Tyrrell, Browns Mills, New Jersey, Donald (Jeanne) Briel, Providence, Utah, and his companion Bonna Ralphs, Logan, Utah. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 12 great grand children.
He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy and brothers and sisters Joseph, Gertrude, Fred, Charles, George, Anna, Viola, Elizabeth, Christina, John, Henry, William, Lillian and Walter.
He will be cremated and a casual gathering to celebrate his life will be held on Friday, November 6, 2009 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Allen Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street in Logan. Condolences and thoughts may be expressed to the family online at
