RUSSELL LYNN SWONGER, is a High Priest in the LDS church, and a veteran of the 82nd Airborne Division Paratroopers, which participated in the invasion of Grenada in 1983. He was mustered out of the Army with the rank of Sgt and was a Master Blaster. He served an honorable LDS mission to Houston, TX. Russell died unexpectedly in his sleep on August 14, 2013.
He was born Feb. 20, 1959, in Lompoc, Calif. He is survived by his wife and sweetheart, Joanna Swonger, his mother, Faye Swonger, his son, Benjamin (Stephanie) Swonger, and his two daughters, Bonnie (Gordon) Granger and Andrea (Dan) Scannell, and his beloved grandchildren, Nathan, Miles, Jacob, Shawn, Alisha , Elizabeth and Hailey. He also will be missed by his Brother , Robert, (Barbara) Swonger, sisters, Robin (Scott) Tabickman, Rhonda (Greg) Babb, Roxanne (Bill) Lord, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Russell had a beautiful tenor voice and was a Madrigal Singer in school and loved music. He adored his grandchildren and loved baseball , animals and riding his motorcycle, where you could see his little dog poking his head out of his leather jacket. We love him and he will be terribly missed.
His funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. , Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, at the LDS church building located at 680 S. 1250 West, Logan, UT. A viewing will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 22 at the Alen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center St. in Logan, and prior to the services from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Friday at the church.
