Ruth Brenchley Bingham

July 16, 1938 — August 22, 2023

Wellsville, UT

Ruth Leishman Brenchley Bingham, born on July 16, 1938, to Melvin and Mary Leishman in Wellsville, Utah, peacefully departed this life on August 22, 2023 after a courageous battle with cancer. Ruth was the seventh among eleven siblings in her family. Her upbringing on the family farm in Wellsville instilled a strong work ethic as she dedicated herself to the farm's various responsibilities. Her days in the sugar beet fields taught her the importance of diligence and allowed her to find delight in life's simple joys.

Ruth's educational journey included attending Wellsville Floradell Elementary, Wellsville Junior High, and South Cache High School. It was during her high school years that she met her eternal sweetheart, Myron Kent Brenchley. Their love story endured even during Kent's two-year LDS mission to Canada, resulting in their eternal marriage in the Logan Temple on February 6, 1959. Together, they were blessed with five children: Laurie, Kevin, Robert, Darin, and David.

While Ruth held various jobs, from her early days at Evertons and Montgomery Ward to her role as the beloved "catalog lady" at JC Penney's. Her most cherished role was that of a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed family camp trips where she loved to put puzzles together. She eagerly anticipated journeys to Idaho and Nevada with Marie and Dee Bosworth. She had a special knack for hosting memorable family gatherings, with Labor Day being a yearly highlight.

After nearly five decades of marriage, Ruth faced the devastating loss of her beloved Kent in 2006. However, love found her again, and she married Melvin Ray Bingham on June 28, 2008. Their time together, though brief, was filled with love and shared experiences. Tragically, Ray was diagnosed with cancer, and once again, Ruth found herself alone facing life's challenges with grace and resilience. She channeled her energy into crocheting, creating hundreds of afghans that became treasured gifts for family and friends, each one a labor of love.

Ruth was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and found her greatest fulfillment serving in the Primary organization. She and Kent also found joy serving in the Logan Temple for six years.

Ruth is survived by her five loving children: Laurie Kaye Christensen, Kevin Leishman (Julie), Robert Kent (Lisa), Darin Todd, and Gaylin David (Rebecca), her twenty-two grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren (with two more on the way), as well as her siblings, Tom (Tish) Leishman, Carolyn (Darrell) Anderson, Lorin (Jimmie) Leishman, Marie (Dee) Bosworth, and Connie (Larry) Wade. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Myron Kent Brenchley and Melvin Ray Bingham, as well as her parents, Melvin and Mary Leishman, and brothers Arvin Leishman, Doyle Leishman, and Lloyd Leishman, and sisters Lavona Watkins, and Carma Jensen.

A viewing to celebrate Ruth's life will be held on Sunday, August 27th, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center St, Logan, Utah. Funeral services will take place on Monday, August 28th, at the Wellsville LDS 7th Ward Church house, 660 South 100 West in Wellsville at 11:00 AM. A viewing will precede the service from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the same location. Ruth will be laid to rest in the Wellsville Cemetery.
