Ruth Holt

Our beloved Mother, Ruth Brown Holt slipped peacefully from mortality Thursday April 18, 2024 at the age of 92.

Born November 8, 1931 in Fairview, Wyoming, she grew up in her beloved Star Valley Wyoming, later moving to Salt Lake City, Utah to finish/further education and to work.  It was while working at the Salt Lake City post office during a busy Christmas season that she met Dean A. Holt whom she would later marry.  Following marriage in the Salt Lake Temple, completion of Dean’s medical training at the “U”, an internship in Ogden, UT, they settled in Evanston, Wyoming, to raise their family. 

Ruth was a dedicated and loving wife to her late husband Dean A. Holt, and a devoted Mother to her children. She would join with two other Ruth’s (mothers of athletes on her children’s team) to become the Rootin Ruth’s and fearlessly crisscross Wyoming in the winter to basketball games.

Ruth was kind and generous, always putting others’ needs before her own.  She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many callings over the years, including Relief Society President, Primary President and Missionary Service with her husband Dean at Temple Square events. 

Ruth loved and enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She liked to surprise them with a hide and find game called Boola Boola. One would sing “Boola Boola” louder as the searcher neared the hiding spot. 

Ruth is survived by a brother, Lynn, 6 children, Alan (Shelly), Michael (Karen), David (Kathryn), Cathie Thunell (Randy), Mark (Michelle) and Robert (Jodee), 18 grandchildren, and 35 great-grandchildren, who will miss her dearly.  Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Julia Brown, and by her siblings, Stuart, Reed, Carol and Lois, and her husband of 63 years Dean A. Holt.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 27 at White Pine Chapel, 753 South 100 East, Logan, UT. Visitation 9:30 -10:30 am, Funeral 11:00 am.
