Ruth P. Layne

Ruth Pratt Layne 87 stepped out of this earth life and proceeded on with her journey on September 15, 2013. She was rewarded with a glorious reunion with her precious loved ones, waiting for her with open arms, after valiantly enduring all the struggles of cancer and old age. She always tried to display a positive attitude and was very grateful for all her many blessings. Ruth was born on September 17, 1925 in Preston ID and passed away 2 days short of her 88th birthday. Her parents were Samuel Ray and Thelma Chadwick Pratt. She was the oldest of 8 children. Her mother and youngest brother passed away when she was only 7 years old, leaving her with many adult responsibilities. She was raised by her grandmother Ruth Chadwick Larsen. She attended school in Preston where she graduated from High school. She married Delbert R. Layne in 1945 and they made their home in Ogden UT for the next 8 years. They lived in Preston ID for 1 ½ years and then moved to Hyrum UT where she lived the remaining years of her life. They were blessed with 9 children, 7 daughters and twins sons who passed away at birth. Her large, wonderful family brought her much happiness! She had 34 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 5 great -great grandchildren. In the past year she was blessed with 9 new babies to add to her wonderful family heritage. New babies were the light of her life and would always bring her pure joy as she would hold and adore them. Ruth loved to serve and help others. She was faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, serving in the primary for many years as well as the Sunday school and Relief Society. She served two missions, one in Tucson AZ and the other in Macon GA. Being a missionary and sharing the gospel was very important to her and she loved to share her experiences with everyone who would lend a listening ear. She loved reading, writing in her journals, good music, flowers, hummingbirds, sunsets, the mountains, the ocean, attending the temple, and her family. She is survived by her children Rieta Leatham, Hyrum UT, Thelma Layne, Providence UT, Debra (Thane) Ellis, Farr West UT, Darlene (Warren) Myers, Logan UT, Delsa (Larry) Gull, Ogden UT, Chuck Gee(Mom's adored son-in-law and Eva's beloved
husband) Uinta UT, Vonda (Darrel) Wiser, Nibley UT, sister LaRae (Bob) Rouse, Pocatello ID, brother Derl (Brenda) Pratt, Loveland CO. She is preceded in death by her husband Delbert Layne, daughter Eva Gee, sons Larry and Garry Layne, grandson Jeremy Halladay, 3 sisters, 2 brothers, her parents and grandparents.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, Sept. 21st at the Hyrum LDS Church, 95 N 600 W Hyrum UT. There will be a viewing before the services from 10:30-11:30. A viewing will also be held from 6-8pm on Friday Sept. 20th at the Allen Hall Mortuary 34 E Center in Logan UT. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.allenmortuaries.net .
