Ruth Fisher Morgan

September 10, 1930 — March 19, 2017

Ruth Fisher Morgan died Sunday March 19, 2017 in Logan, UT at the age of 86.
Ruth was born September 10, 1930, in Bountiful, Utah to Rulon (Jim) Fisher and Myra Longhurst Fisher. She is the second of three daughters born to Rulon and Myra. Her parents and two sisters preceded her in death. Ruth is the wife of Dee Rich Morgan and mother to six 6 children, grandmother to 22 and a great grandmother to 9.
Ruth was raised in Bountiful, UT. She attended and graduated from Davis High School. She enrolled at Utah State Agricultural College (now Utah State University) where she pursed a degree in Library Sciences. While at USU she met and married Dee Rich Morgan on November 20, 1951. They have had many adventures and experiences in their 65 years together. They lived in Texas, Wisconsin, New York, Utah and California. Together they travelled to many parts of the world. Recently she observed that she “had seen a lot of the world for a girl from Bountiful, UT.”
Ruth was dedicated to a lifetime of learning and service. She was involved in many capacities and programs in the LDS church organizations. These included a pianist and organist, leadership in Relief Society and Primary organizations, and serving as a missionary at the Family History Center in Salt Lake City. She also volunteered in the communities in which she lived, including being involved at schools and community libraries.
Ruth was also known for her graciousness as a hostess. Many people have enjoyed a meal and spent an evening together with family, friends and strangers in her home. Many Sunday dinners included guests, often known to her only at the last minute. But you were always welcome and there was always enough food to go around and usually an invitation to come back.
Ruth was a champion of helping people see that they could achieve and improve themselves; particularly through education. Whether encouraging and providing opportunity for her own children and grandchildren to further their education or volunteering as an adult literacy teacher or tutoring foreign students in learning English or helping women inmates at Santa Rita jail in CA, Ruth saw the potential in those around her. She cared for elderly, invalid neighbors. She included the marginalized into her circle of friendship. She advocated for those without a voice.
Although she would be the first to point out she was not perfect and had many flaws, she will be remembered for her goodness and sacrifices made to help those around her. Ruth Morgan’s legacy will not be found in the annals of world history writ large; but it will be found in the lives of her posterity and the individual lives of those she befriended and served along her life’s journey.
