Ruth Collings Robinette graduated from this earthly life early in the morning of October 15, 2024 at Logan Regional Hospital in Logan, Utah from a recent illness and hospital stay. Heaven truly gained a beautiful angel at that moment. She was born on May 5, 1933 in Brigham City, Utah to Thomas William Collings and Hortense Holton Collings. She was the ninth of twelve children, six of which were born to Thomas and his first wife, Dorothy, and six were born to his second wife, Hortense, after Dorothy had passed away. Life in a big family had its daily challenges and rewards with nine boys and three girls to keep things lively.
Her growing up years were spent between Magna, Utah where she attended Elementary and Junior High School and then later moving to Brigham City, Utah attending Box Elder High School, where she was Secretary of the Girls League, she was on the Honor Roll and was One of the “Top 10” students scholastically, graduating in 1951.
She loved learning and was an exceptional student, striving to get the best grades and improve herself scholastically. She attended Weber Junior College in Ogden, Utah for 2 years earning her Certificate of Completion in Business and Academics, graduating in 1953.
Ruth fell in love and married her fellow classmate, Dale B. Robinette on June 1, 1956 in the Logan Utah Temple. They welcomed five children to their family, Lee, Renae, Joanne, Scott, and Mark. Joanne only lived for 30 minutes due to health problems with her lungs. This was a huge heartbreak and trial for Dale and Ruth and they have both missed her so much over the years. They started out their married life in Brigham City, then moved to North Ogden for several years and settled in Hyrum, Utah for the last 58 years, calling it home. Dale and Ruth celebrated 68 wonderful married years together in June of this year. Ruth was a sweet, kind, special wife and mother, devoting her time and energy to her family, helping them in any way she could.
Being a secretary was Ruth’s fondest profession. She worked as a secretary at Fram Auto Parts Corporation in Brigham City for 4 ½ years and as the Deputy City Recorder for Hyrum City for 14 years, retiring on June 1. 1995. Ruth was truly happy being a secretary and was well known for her exceptional spelling and proofreading skills. She loved taking notes and organizing the details of office work. Over the years, she held secretary positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Young Women, Primary and Sunday School organizations, as well as, Primary and Ward Librarian, Relief Society Nursery Leader, Relief Society Food Committee Member and as a Relief Society Visiting Teacher.
Ruth will always be remembered as a sweet, gentle soul who displayed dignity and grace at every turn. She was always concerned about others, asking about their welfare, and what she could do to help them. She went out of her way to send birthday cards to family members every year so they would know how special and loved they were. Ruth was a celebrity in the family with her special Halloween treats she would make each year for the trick-or-treaters.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Hortense Collings, siblings, Erin Collings, Danny Collings, Lester Collings, Fred Collings, Bill Collings, Perry Collings, Dick Collings, Glenn Collings, Arlene Hunsaker, daughter, Joanne Robinette, mother and father-in-law, Delbert and Marie Robinette and brother- in-law, Max Robinette. Ruth is survived by her loving husband, Dale Robinette, children, Lee (Lois) Robinette, Renae (Claud) Williams, Scott (Sharon) Robinette, Mark (Suzanne Reese) Robinette, two siblings, Dorothy Newman, and Lynn (Louise) Collings, sister-in -law Raone Collings, Ileen Robinette, Carol (Larry) Summers, 13 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
