Ruth Jensen Shoup

Ruth Jensen Shoup passed away April 20, 2014. Born in 1916 to a large Swedish family in Millville, Utah, she proudly married at the age of 18, "her man," Donald R. Shoup in Oakland, Calif. He built her a house in Logan, Utah, and they made it a happy home. She enjoyed working in retail, always ready to make a stranger smile. Many friends knew her from Roskelley, Couches and Tots to Teens. She loved to share laughter and fostered a close-knit family whose love and care gave nurture through her many long years. She lost her man to cancer in 1982, but a diet of love and gratitude kept her strong and healthy. A remarkable woman, fiercely independent, she lived alone and cared for her own home until, at 97 years, a stroke took her from us. We are indebted to her neighbors, especially Mr. & Mrs. Lynn Johnson for their kindness over the years. We are also grateful for Community Nursing Services who gently helped us through this loss. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald R Shoup, son-in-law Max LeGrand Johnson, grandson Jay Donald Johnson and seven brothers and sisters. She is survived in death by her daughters, Jane Johnson of Providence, Utah, and Bonnie (& Steven) Taylor of North Salt Lake, Utah; grandchildren Carrie (& David) Fullen of Highlands Ranch Colo., Stefanie Dale Taylor (& Jesse Mendiola) of Bountiful, Utah, Lee Johnson - Max LeGrand Johnson Jr. - of Charleston, S.C., and Ann-Marie Taylor (& Merrick Musolf) of Petaluma, Calif.; great-grandchildren John David Fullen of Steamboat Springs, Colo.; Claire Fullen of Colorado Springs, Colo., Lauren, Ava and Ryan Johnson of Atlanta, Ga., Hadley and Cole Musolf of Petaluma, Calif.; sister LeVone Yeates of Nibley, Utah; and nieces Fran and Annette Richardson. A private family service was held on Monday, April 21. In lieu of flowers please consider a contribution to the Humane Society or simply a random act of kindness.
