Ruth Weidner

Our Ruthie passed away at home the morning of May 31, 2024, with her family by her side.  It was raining with thunder and lightning. Very appropriate given Ruth loved rainy days.   She said they made her feel cozy and comfortable.  

Ruth was born in Republic, Washington, on August 19, 1952 to Priel (Covert) and John Burton. As her father was in big construction, Ruth’s family lived all through the northwest.  Many of her growing up years were spent in Providence, Cache Valley, Utah.   Cache Valley always held a special place in her heart and when asked where she was from, it was always “Cache Valley.” 

Ruth’s greatest desire was to be a wife, mother and grandmother.  All of which she did with unconditional love, devotion and pride. Ruth opened her heart and home to dozens of children she took care of over the years, affectionately known as “Ruthie” to them all.  Ruth created a home where her daughter’s friends frequently gathered, all knowing they were always welcome to walk right in and make themselves at home.  Ruth loved to create, whether it was as the neighborhood cake baker, her crochet projects, or whatever her latest interest. It was always something! Her daughter, Angie, she of course considered her greatest creation!

Ruthie married Tom Weidner, “the skinny guy down the hall”, on March 19, 1982.  Five years his senior, when teased by Tom about her age, she would reply that she had to wait for him to grow up.  She would then laugh and say she was “still waiting”.  Not going to happen, girl!

Ruth had a very strong testimony of her savior and His love for her. She was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, having served in the Greensboro, North Carolina, mission. 

Ruthie is survived by her husband Tom Weidner, daughter Angie Schmitt, son in law Rob Schmitt, and grandkids, Lauren, Claire, Leah and Blake.  She is also survived by her devoted and adored sister Karen (Paul) Miner, brother John Burton, and many nieces, nephews and family members, all who meant the world to her. Family was (and is) everything!  Catch you on the other side, Ruthie!
