RUTH BANKHEAD HOBSON (BANK)
Ruth Bankhead Hobson passed away on November 25, 2006 at the age of 91. Ruth, known to many as "Bank" was born on October 19, 1915, to Heber H. and Margaret W. Bankhead in Wellsville, Utah. She was the oldest of three children, a brother, H. Blaine (Pat) Bankhead of Peachtree City, Georgia and a sister LaRayne (deceased) (A.J.) Christensen of Wellsville, and many nieces and nephews that loved her dearly.
Ruth married Stanley G. Hobson, April 6, 1947 (deceased). They lived in Logan all their married life and Ruth was still living in her home until a month ago.
She attended elementary and junior high school in Wellsville and graduated from South Cache High School. She graduated from Utah State University in 1937 with a B. S. degree in Health Physical Education and Recreation. Her first teaching job was in Altamont, Utah for a year. She then went on to teach at South Cache High School, and later at Sky View High School, retiring after 43 years of teaching. She was a class advisor to the student body, pep club, cheer and song leaders and taught modern dance at Sky View. Ruth belonged to numerous educational service organizations. In 1970, she was chosen for the state of Utah the “Outstanding Women's Physical Education Teacher". Ruth supported the local high schools and was an avid Aggie fan. Ruth was able to attend volleyball and basketball games until her health recently took a turn for the worse. Ruth had been a member of the Big Blue Club for many years.
Ruth was proud when she received the “Women Over 65 Achievement Award" in 2004 from Utah State University. Ruth said many times she hoped her love and respect for the students was known and hoped that she gave them something to enhance their lives. She was thankful for her health, her family and the many wonderful friends and associates throughout her life.
