Ruth Evans Yashko died December 20, 2009 in Logan, Utah. Born August 26, 1914, in Montpelier, Idaho, she was the 4th of 7 children born to Frederick Charles and Caroline Eschler Evans. She grew up on a ranch in Raymond, Idaho, where she loved the outdoor life –horses, the canyons and Bear Lake. During WWII, she learned to fly in the Civil Air Patrol and was a member of the USO. She attended Brigham Young College, Utah State Agricultural College, University of Idaho, University of Utah and Wright State University, receiving a BS in Education with a teaching minor in English and a MS in Physical Education. She also competed in women’s basketball and track. She taught school in Idaho, Florida, and Ohio, English at BYU, Phys Ed at U of U, and, in later life, taught at American Heritage School in Pleasant Grove.
She married Paul Yashko and they raised 5 children together while living in Utah, California, Maryland, Colorado, Washington, Florida, Iowa and Ohio. They were later divorced.
Mother loved to meet people and had friends everywhere. She was active in community and church service wherever she lived. A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served gladly where needed in the Primary, Sunday School, MIA, Relief Society, and Scouting organizations in teaching and leadership callings. She served missions to Massachusetts Boston, Mississippi Jackson, and Chicago Temple. She was an ordinance worker at the Provo and Mt. Timpanogos Temples.
Energetic, she was always eager to help care for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be remembered for her enthusiasm, skill to motivate and willingness to give to others all she had.
She is survived by 4 of her children Nancy (Mike) Strode, Angela (Bill) Roberts, Paula (Craig) Davis, and Greg (Cindy) Yashko, 21 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren, and her brothers Edwin and Douglas Evans. She was preceded in death by her daughter Sonya Reid Vancil, sisters Alice Hart and Edith Shepherd, and brothers LaGrande and Roscoe Evans.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on December 28th, 2009, at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center, Logan, Utah. Viewing will be held 1 hour prior to services; interment in the Logan City Cemetery following services.
